I'd just like some opinions on the build and have some questions.

FRAME................Evil DOC
FORK..................Fox 80mm
HEADSET.............King (pink)
STEM..................Thomson
HANDLEBARS........Answer Pro-taper
GRIPS..................Big Cheese (pink)
FRONT BRAKE.......none (if I use one, then Avid mech)
REAR BRAKE..........Avid mech w/ XTR lever
CASSETTE............King 18t cog + spacers
CHAIN.................Shadow Conspiracy
CRANKS...............FSA V-drive (any non-cromo suggestions?)
CHAINRING...........36 tooth
BB......................Truvativ SL
PEDALS................Ringle Zu-Zu
RIMS...................Rhynolite 24" or D521 26"
HUBS...................Hadley or King (pink) or Ringle (please tell me your opinion)
FRONT TIRE..........HighRoller Semi-Slick
REAR TIRE............Hookworm or HighRoller Semi-Slick
SEAT...................S&M or some pink saddle
SEAT POST...........Thomson

Any opinions on this build? I'm open to all suggestions and please let me know your opinion on the options. I work at a shop so this really isn't going to cost me a ****load. I'm really torn between the King hubs and others. I'm going with a black and pink theme with white lettering so getting the pink King hubs would be perfect but still alot of bank.

Also any experience with SS gearing is much appreciated.

Thanks
Nick

If i got a doc i would probably want a gears and 26's, but if u r sure on the 24's and ss the only things i would change would be the fork to a fox 36 or sherman jumper.

also i would do kings just to carry the pink theme. ohh and id do dual holy rollers.

also arrow frx's are the best medium duty rim imo. or maybe a mtx if u r a sun junky. i would also do a truvative lufta arm crankset. then if its possible one of these sprockets

http://www.danscomp.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?action=DETAIL&item=458008

in gold of course with a e13 bashgaurd, maybe one or two of those street style 1/4 or 1/5 fifth bmx style guards they showed at vegas.

that sounds perfect to me :)

Only reason I am holding back from a 36 is the price. It's not that cheap and the Fox I'd be getting is uber cheap since we have had it sitting in the shop for a while and it's a take-off of a new bike. I have also considered a Pike but my shop doesn't have pricing on them yet.

I'm not set on 24's but I have recently rode some on a different bike and absolutely loved it. I am set on ss though as I have no need for gears and they only make it more complex and expensive.

I'll take a look into the FRX's.

The Truvativ Luftalarm is for BMX... but I could run it on this. Why do you say that over the V-drive? or even a Hussefelt or Holzfeller?

Thanks for the input.

Plenty of guys mob on the regular fox's w/o incident it's all about being smooth and if you ride a hardtail (with pink parts) I'm assuming you fit into that category. The only issue is creaky crowns and Fox will warranty that within a year from DOP so be sure to have the manager write you up a legit receipt for the fork.

You gotta get the pink hubs, if you change your mind you know you could always sell them for what you've got into em for shop prices. Is king offerring the ISO 20mm hub in pink also?

For cranks I love Saint but the Luftalarm's seem sweet or Holzfellers but no butterfelts!!! No bueno!

I'm pretty sure you could get an ISO 20mm pink hub.... They are making them special request so I'm sure you could get them, not sure on the wait time though.

Direct from King's site:
"We’re excited to announce a new addition to our line of colors to coincide
with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For a limited time (through December 31, 2004) the Pink headset will be available directly to dealers through King Cycle Group at 800-523-6008.

For those who like their King components to match, a special Headset and Hubs package will be available by special request only. The package will include a pink headset, a set of pink hubs and a t-shirt. Pre-orders must be made by November 12, 2004 and the components will be shipped in time for Christmas.

In conjunction with this limited offer, King Cycle Group will be donating $1 from each pink headset sale to the Oregon and SW Washington affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The Pink Headset donation program will continue through to December 31."

This means you need to get any pink stuff before the 31st.

I'd be inclined to get a Manitou Sherman Jumper fork, seeing as how that's what the frame is designed around. If you're getting a pink King headset, you gotta go with the pink King hubs too. I'd prefer ODI Ruffian lock-on grips, and I'd also suggest Kenda K-Rad or Maxxis Holy Roller tires; they're the most versatile for street and dirt jumping. My preference is 26" wheels, but to each his own. I'd consider an e.thirteen Supercharger bashguard too. Lastly, avoid Zu Zu pedals. There are much better platforms available for about the same amount of money (I think). My personal favorites are the Tioga MX-Pro platforms. They're about $20 cheaper than any other comparable pair of flat pedals, and the quality is top-notch.

Yeah, I'll be running an Evil bash, just forgot to mention it.

I thought about K-rads also. I really like the highroller semislicks though.

I wouldn't actually have the ZuZus but I'd have a knockoff that costs me less than $10 and survive a while with good grip.

Nick,
I agree on going with Luftalarms over FSA v-drives, I've actually been a Cromo 3 piece advocate for years, and I'm thinking of switching to Luftalarms. Go with 26'' rims if you are unsure of what to do, that way you can take the bike everywhere, if you want 24" s you really need to be set on them. Get K-Rads, or Arrow Launches over the Maxxis' because they are better, and cheaper.

Is there a great need for that chain when you have sliding dropouts? I'm thinking it's not entirely necessary, and something like a KMC Kool Chain would be better.

SC claims the chain is much stronger. i was considering it for my build, but i think i'm just gonna stick with a PC8-something.

If this bike is for street and jumpin only I say drop all the King/Thompson and other expensive parts- it just dosen't seem worth it as cheap BMX parts will do the job just as well and cost waaaaay less. If you are wanting to hold on to the parts for future projects though, that looks like a dope bike, and keep on 26" for versitility. 24"s are sweet for non-trail use though, mabye with that much cash you can build both for extra versitility?

the way i see it, maneuverability ads versatility. THe only problem with 24's is that you have to get intimate with the tyre supply to get what you need.

I plan on keeping the King and Thomson stuff for a long time.... Hopefully keep the bike for a couple years.

I looked for Luftalarms at work today but it doesn't seem that we can get them. Anyone know which distributor has them?

what are Luftalarms? i've never even heard of them. Googled "luftalarms cranks" and came up with nothing.

If you go for 24" wheels, I'd suggest running 36h hubs, that way you can use BMX rims as well as MTB rims if you feel the urge to do so. If I were to run a dedicated 24" street bike, I'd be popping for a light race cruiser front rim, to drop a few grams where I can. And 24"x1.9" Holy Rollers would be sweet to run as well.

um go 26 i did the swith and personally it sucked roiding over anything that wasnot smooth.

if you dont got pink go gold, gold and black is yummy also.
check out truvativ holzfeller cranks as far as non cromo cranks go. mine have held up great (2 seasons of street riding and lots of big bales that have ruined many a pedals) also as far as pedals check out either easton flatboys or any of the weyless/wlego pedals with the exception of the cheap ass ones and the mag pedals (run them on my dh bike and they bend very very easily)

like mentioned earlier go with holly rollers no matter what wheel size you choose, i couldnt be happier with mine and they mount up tubeless like a charm.

Am i the only guy who has never liked highrollers? Holy roller seems cool but ive never ridden one of any size. There's also the Tioga FS100.Which is what Donahuge has on his personal DOC.

as far as pedals i like the odyssey JC.

I think I might drop the whole pink theme.

I called up King and you can't EP the pink headsets and hubs. That and my shop charges me cost + 10% + tax so it would be about $150 more to get pink instead of a different color.

So now the question, which color? I'm sick of all black bikes... so probably not a black hub.

Gold or dark blue, I have the dark blue stuff on my ride and I dig it, but gold is always sweet too! I think KING is out of stock on most everything right now though, you might want to check...

I'm going to be waiting about 2 months for my DOC anyways, so I don't mind waiting.

That's why I am figuring this out now so I can order it early and get it when I need it (or soon after).

Just called.... They have no gold and won't be making anymore in the next 2 months. Gold is only made 1-2 times/year.

They have pewter and navy shippable, and black and silver will be available in 1-2 weeks. Definitely 32 hole, possibility for 36 hole.

Now what? Pewter or silver?
