Summary of Position:
Evergreen is currently seeking a half-time, professional Trail Crew Chief to organize and lead work parties for Phase 1 Construction at the future Duthie Hill Mountain Bike Park in Issaquah, WA. This job requires a passion for mountain biking, strong trail building skills, exceptional communication and volunteer organizational skills, and the ability to effectively lead a crew to complete a trail work project. Prior non-profit, construction, project management and/or government project experience is a plus. This position has the potential to increase to fulltime and expand to include coordination and leadership of trail maintenance work parties.

Reports To: Trails Director
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead at least 5 weekend work parties and 5 weekday work parties per month
- Work with the Project Manager (PM) to understand the project plan and prepare work plans
- Safely motivate and lead a crew of volunteers of diverse ages and backgrounds
- Arrive at work parties with tools, refreshments, and work plan
- Kick off work parties with a presentation to volunteers including an introduction to the park, a description of the work plan and a safety talk
- Ensure volunteer Liability Release / Sign-in sheets are complete and submitted to PM
- Ensure work is performed according to plan and standards (work includes brushing new trails, benching trails, building drains/turnpikes, and building trail features such as dirt jumps, dirt berms and wooden structures)
- Communicate work party progress, issues and work party summary to PM
- Maintain power tools: gas tanks full, spare gas on hand, oil levels checked, service intervals followed
- Ensure hand tools in good working order and communicate tool issues/needs to PM
- Establish and implement a process to recruit, train, assign, manage and support volunteers and liaisons
- Represent Evergreens trail program and the sport of mountain biking in a positive, professional manner at all times
Additional Responsibilities as time permits:
- Organize volunteer workshops and recognition events in order to discuss the status of projects, present best practices, communicate shared experiences.
- Provide trail construction/maintenance training to volunteers.
- Develop a system for communication and coordination of Evergreen work parties and volunteer projects
- Assist the PM in acquiring free/donated materials
- Assist the PM in implementing a volunteer incentive/recognition program
- Submit monthly trail work updates for Evergreens monthly newsletter
Additional Responsibilities for Full-Time Position
- Lead additional maintenance work parties
- Ensure that all current trail maintenance obligations are being met
- Expand trail maintenance partnerships with public and private partners, with particular attention to expanding geographic reach.
- Develop new projects in partnership with public and private partners, with particular attention for an appropriate balance between urban and backcountry locations.
- Develop and implement a communication plan and set of communication tools to reach Evergreen members, volunteers, partners, public officials, agencies and other audiences on a regular basis.
- Develop and maintain tracking of trail maintenance and construction projects by locations, work parties, miles, volunteers and any other appropriate measure

- A keen understanding of IMBA Trails Solutions Standards
- Exceptional communication and volunteer organizational skills
- Public speaking skills
- Computer savvy (ideal candidate will be proficient with Word, Excel, email, and certain GPS programs and software)
- A positive attitude
- Prior non-profit, construction, project management and/or government project experience is a plus
