Is our presence in Afghanistan, not to mention all the various and sundry outposts in Saudi Arabia, etc. going to persist? Yeah, I thought so. Business as usual.

You're letting perfect be the enemy of good. Or rather, you're letting perfect be the enemy of not-quite-as-much-of-a-total-and-complete-clusterfvck-as-if-we'd-elected-McCain...

Osama's dead.
Qaddafi's dead.
Mubarak's gone.
The last 40,000 US combat troops are leaving Iraq.
Soldiers are beginning to come home from Afghanistan.

Just because I wish that Obama went further (FAR further) in cutting back our military presence around the globe doesn't mean I'm not going to commend him on the things that he is doing.

The presence of dictators elsewhere in the world doesn't bug me, so their downfall brings me no great pleasure, on the other hand. The world is unjust. People who are being repressed should be the ones that take their own destiny into their own hands. We shouldn't be picking up the bill in any sense.

I am thankful that Osama bin Laden is out of the picture, on the other hand, but that was more an action of the military than of the executive branch, per se.

Not really sure how you justify Murabak making that list as if it's an Obama/American victory?
He was after all largely viewed as an American sycophant and deposed by the great unwashed in a people power (largely) peaceful revolution.

Huh. I guess I hadn't heard that Generic Republican was running for president.

*Edit
Gallup has used the generic ballot in years prior to a presidential election when an incumbent was running for re-election and the opposition did not have an obvious front-runner for its presidential candidate, including 1991 and 2003. In October 1991, George H.W. Bush was leading a generic Democratic candidate by 17 points (49% to 32%), though his lead would shrink in subsequent polls and he ultimately lost to Bill Clinton in the 1992 election. In October 2003, George W. Bush had a slight edge over a generic Democratic candidate, 46% to 43%. He won re-election narrowly over John Kerry in 2004.

No. What it means is that any republican with an actual name and a campaign can't beat him right now.
Lol. "Generic Politician" is about as meaningless as any of the rest of HK's posts... Was true in 2004 too.

There is one man who can beat George Bush. Send out a search party: his name is Generic Democrat. Latest polls show that when Americans choose between the current president and a hypothetical figure known only as "the Democratic candidate", the two end up in a statistical tie. Some surveys have even shown our friend Generic Democrat with a slight edge.
The trouble is, Generic cannot be on the ballot paper in November. The Democrats need to have chosen an actual person to take on the president by then, and that task just got a lot more complicated.

It bugs me when we prop them up. You don't think the people of Bahrain shouldn't have a problem with the US government right now?

Yep. Washington didn't want Mubarak going anywhere. He was also a great friend (for a large price) to Israel.

Good point. Our hands are very dirty if you count monetary and military support to oppressive regimes.

It's not like we're crushing them under our bootheel on purpose though. They just happen to be ants where we need to park a fleet of warships. It's not personal.

Besides, they are Arabs. They only understand the language of force.

Yes. These five words stopped me in my tracks. I hope it does others as well.
Considering the source and the price he paid if those words don't cause sober reflection I don't know what will.

Wow I used "sober" in a sentence with reference to GFF. I promise I'll never do it again mate!

cain could beat him like a slave
I see what you did there.

But no.

A strong Republican nominee would be seen as having a reasonable chance of defeating Obama. The AP-GfK poll released Wednesday indicates that half of all Americans now believe Obama does not deserve to be re-elected.

But none of the Republicans vying to challenge him in 2012 has yet been able to outpoll him in a hypothetical head-to-head match up. And the Republican race remains in flux.

What, have you not been reading the news lately? Even Cain is modifying/explaining/backing down/tweaking/etc so that it exempts people under $22k, which of course will mean that a) people earning the median income of $50k/year will still face a $4500 tax increase and b) suddenly it won't raise enough money to be revenue neutral.
You forgot FACT and PERIOD elsewise its simply not true. Have you learned nothing? :disgust1:
