So um...what's the benefit of a militant lesbianmobile over a not-so-militant lesbianmobile? Just curious, as girlpants and I will be in the market for a new car soon, and would like to know if it's worth the extra coin for the Outback.

Edit: Wagon pls.

Mistar Winky is on his last legs :(

i'm pretty sure the legacy has more "luxury" stuff ie: vinal seats, heated steats, wood panneling ect...

i drive an outback legacy sedan...and it has all that stuff plus a few more extra things, but now that i think about i'm not sure if thats the legacy part, or the fact that it's the "limited" edition

Go outback, and take that schwinn back to target
The Homegrown has been gone for awhile, sadly. Really old picture. :(

Soo wish I still had it. Hotter than your handjob, homo.

Our problem is that our budget is max $4500...$4000 would be preferable so we can get a hitch rack setup. Few Outbaccas out there for that much.

I think the outback has higher clearance, shorter body, bigger engine = poorer gas mileage. For the newer ones I don't think you can get a regular Legacy anymore. As I understand it, the Outback pretty much replaced the Legacy wagon. They over lapped for a few years. ( I could be wrong about all this).

FWIW, I drive a 95 Legacy lsi 120K, pre Outback. It's current value is more or less in your price range. You'll pry out of my cold dead hands.

good luck finding one that cheep...subies are good cars that will last a LONG time, but you end up payin for that...mine is a 2000 and when i got it last year it had almost 90,000 miles on it, and it still cost 12grand...you might be able to find an older one with over 100k miles on it or somethin

I was thinking a 95-97. Seem to be between $4-6k.

In a van.... down by the river
Legacy wagon & Outback from that era - basically the same car except the Outback had more clearance. I owned a '95 Legacy wagon & currently own a '97 Outback wagon. Both got around 25mpg in mixed driving ('95 had the 2.2l, '97 has the 2.5l).

So the basic answer is the Outback is probably not worth extra coin (all other things being equal) unless you *need* the clearance.

Higher ride height is about it. They are based on identical monococque platforms.

All the differences are minor and cosmetic, like the reversing/fog lights on the tailgate of the 'Outback' wagon that aren't there on the wagon.

As a Subaru flunky I've always wondered why the Outback, they have a higer centre of gravity, don't corner as well and come specced with non-grippy tyres. Their off road capacity is limited to the grass infront of your house.

Why nor just buy the normal Legacy wagon and enjoy the corners more?

That reminds me that my current 98 B-spec if up for replacement and look what has just come out. GT spec-B, damn the ten week wait for delivery!

The cars are pretty identical with the following exceptions:

1) The Outback has a raised suspension so it has greater ground clearence.
2) The Outback has lower body molding that some like and some hate, the Legacy lacks this lower molding.
3) The Outback is available with a 3.0l H-6 that I believe is not available on the Legacy in the US. Both cars have available to them the NA 2.5L engine and the Turbo 2.5L engine
4) The Outback has smaller brake rotors than the Legacy.
5) Some of the interior finishes (fake wood vs metallic painted plastic, etc) are different between the Legacy and Outback, but the interiors are generally the same.
