I replaced my fork after hitting a large hole with my front wheel.

Read about it here.

Anyway I put that SID On the bike and I noticed while I have been riding that the fork seemed a little loose . I always pawned it off as being flex in the fork and me being a 200+ lb rider.

Well I put a White Borthers XC70 on the bike and in the process i noticed three little divits in the bearning race that goes on the fork. The divits were impressions of the bearings. Well I need to replace the headset but I went ahead and threw it together. And Im still getting the rattling feeling and a sound also.

Is my head tube ovalized? Time for a new frame?

I have taken several rides with it this way. Am I damaging my fork in anyway? Its the smallest amount of movement. If it is i know i need to replace my frame but if I can ride while Im looking for a new frame that would be nice.

But if its not safe I need to know before this afternoons ride.

Sounds like it's just your headset, not your headtube. If you have indentations on the headset cups (I'm assuming it's a loose ball headset), then it's done for and you should replace it. It's actually the result of lack of lubrication/maintenance... not the impact.

Replacing the headset should solve your problem.

The divits are in the race that gets pressed onto the fork. Right before i put the manitou back on my bike (Was riding a SID) i made sure to check the bearings. I also greased the headset at the same time.

Ill see if i can get pics tonight of the divits.

Well I swapped out the headset tonight (tuesday) and well I did need to swap the headset out. It was an unsealed headset and the bearings in the bottom were broke in half. And the bearings were also ovalized. But it still didnt seem to fix the problem. The race that goes on the fork is just a hair from being compltly on. I was not able to press it on all the way. So I guess its a trip to a LBS and see what happens.
