I didn't watch the interview, but I did read the comments. I have never been on a blog quite like that. I loved the posters that said he should shut the hell up and that he should leave the country.
Mellencamp get the hell out this country. You would not be here if if we lost WWII. The only place you would be singing would be a death camp. Who really cares what you have to say anyway. Shut the hell up!
But what what brutal, ruthless, genocidal maniac did 9-11? The evidence is far from conclusive.
God forbid Iran gets the atomic bomb. God forbid they manage to get one into the United States. God forbid they detonate that bomb in New York City, because if they do, ten million people are going to die.
God forbid we had some actual border security in the US to prevent such a thing. For some reason, Americans feel more secure when their troops are thousands of miles away, instead of at home, defending us.
But if they do, God forbid we ever fight back, right John? Because as long as Mellenbrains life isnt in immediate danger, then theres no reason to fight, right? Like he said, hes in favor of *self* defense. All of those people who lost their life on 9/11, well, they aint worth going to war over.
you ever seen any stretch of inland maine? simply intractable in its current physical state. isreal has figured out - at a very hi cost - how to properly protect borders from terrorists
I am not a believer in everything LC has to say. I have been on SLC before, and I did not find many of the arguments compelling. I took another look and felt the same way.
Here is the deal. Each claim and counterclaim must be examined independently based upon all the available evidence. There we will find the truth.
Unfortunately, most Americans are far too busy driving their Hummers to pick up Starbucks to be bothered with such esoterics as "truth" and "evidence." It is far easier to just tell folks to "shut the hell up."

or worse...
I always thought Americans believed in freedom of speech, and freedom of thought. I guess I was wrong.
This one has helped me understand why people think that we need to be at war in the middle east:
But what what brutal, ruthless, genocidal maniac did 9-11? The evidence is far from conclusive.

Who are we at war with? What did Iraq have to do with 9-11? Nothing. Bush said so himself.
...and more suggestions of harm for someone stating their opinions. I must learn to embrace this new American style of freedom.
Hey, so I am watching this thing now, and the host keeps deliberately avoiding the Iraq issue.
When finally pushed Mellencamp said that even what happened in Afghanistan was wrong. He said that he did not think that we had exhausted all diplomatic options, and I tend to agree. However, Afghanistan was believed to be harboring Osama, and I can limitedly support the Afghan invasion.
Iraq is a totally different story, and the host made it clear that he thought it was too. Most people today know that we went into Iraq based on lies.
I found Mellencamp to be honest when he said that he didn't know the truth about JFK. I respect that.
He said that he is not a pacifist. He said that he is all for defending himself when there is no other choice. I support this position 100%. Iraq is even worse... it is a war of aggression. A war of choice.
God bless America. May God have mercy on our souls.
