My dorado is supposed to be here tomorrow and there are a few things im need to know. Are the newer ones more reliable then that of the old? Do they feel super sweet? im only 140 so the stiffness should be fine? Is the maintence difficult? Set up tips and such would be appreciated. I have the option to keep the 888vf with flat crowns that came on my bike and make it a works or keep the dorado that is coming so Im trying to decide.

Just any comments would be appreciated.

PM phatswalla, I was going to pick up his dorado but ended up coming short on money. I asked him the same type of questions your asking now, he knows his dorado pretty damn well. I would ditch the vf, i like my r alot but i wouldnt ride anything less.

I'd definetly pick up the Dorado. For your weight, it's plenty stiff, and will be very smooth. You will be more than happy with the Dorado. Plus, carbon is sexy. I'm guessing you got the 180mm, and not the SPV 200mm?

Some of the earlier ones had issues with seals and bushings wearing out quickly but from 2003 on up they have been pretty much problem free and do not require much maintenance either, check out Orven's post of some time ago that goes through all the maintenance in detail.

My son and I have been running Dorado's for the last two seasons with out any problems.

Great fork. Mine is running perfect after two seasons. Just sent mine back to Manitou for new seals, bushings and a regular service. Its only $65.00 for the overhaul. Only other fork I would consider is the new Fox 40 but thats for next year after its been field tested....

Which dorado are you getting? 02-04, X-works, or 05? The 05 should be the shiznat, good old tpc internals with the beefier uppers. I had an X works this last year and it was pretty awesome, although I did blow a few spv air bladders, always replaced for free on site. You cant go wrong with an old one either.

I've got an '02, and even though its older it still rips. the seals and bushings gave me hell the firs summer while I had it, but I was able to put the evil genius seals on it and it runs smooth as hell.
