I'm thinking of painting the lowers on my old '99 Bomber. Right now they're polished aluminum, and I'd like to go either black or white. Any suggestions or links on how to do this myself without making it look like garbage? What should I use to clean it with first? Do I need to use primer? And what type of paint should I use? I've never really done "professional" painting before, I've just used spray paint cans to paint things like seatpost collars and quick-releases.

Sorry, I'm Canadian ..sorry...
I sprayed an old Boxxer I had. It was the blood red and I changed it to black. I was not too concerned about looks as it was destined to get scratched to hell anyway. All I did was take some time and sand it down a bit, not right down, but enough that the baint would stick. Then a can of automotive gloss black later it looked good.

You'd probably need a primer if there is no clearcoat over your polished lowers. If there is a clear, sand it with some high count sand paper, I think I used 1800 grit.

I hope that helped a little.
