Pakistan is about to have parliamentary elections. With a recent background of Bhutto being assassinated by the ISI, plus all that good **** with the Taliban in the north and the US and the nukes and 'Al Quada', it should be a fun time.

Pakistanis vote in tense election

People in Pakistan are voting in a crucial election overshadowed by political violence and fears of fraud...

...The two major opposition parties say President Pervez Musharraf's allies are planning massive fraud. They have vowed to protest if they suspect foul play.

The worst act of pre-poll violence saw 47 killed at a rally on Saturday...

...Early voting was slow in major cities on Monday.

The BBC's Chris Morris in Islamabad says this may be due to voters' fears about security, though they might also be taking advantage of the public holiday and enjoying a lie-in.
How many locals will die in total? Betting begins now!

The Guardian said:
As the last day of official campaigning in the most troubled contest for decades drew to a close yesterday, no one was confident of a victory and many fear widespread unrest in the poll's aftermath.

Continuing violence - more than 80 people have died in the past seven days - is scaring many voters. A suicide bomber yesterday killed 37 people when he rammed his car into an independent candidate's office in Parachinar, Pakistan's volatile north-west border with Afghanistan.
You see that's committed political activism!

Don't be a drama queen. Lunatics with access to nuclear weapons- what could possibly go wrong?:twitch:
I'd expect the violence to calm down in the next month or so. Interestingly enough the economy there seems to be going quite strongly from reports I've seen. Hopefully if the economic growth is shared throughout the society it will help alleviate the conditions which lead some towards radicalism.
