What pisses me off is that the media is the only access I have to the candidates. I would love to see Palin (and the rest of the candidates) in a town hall setting, but I doubt Palin could handle it.

Even Bill O'Reilly or The View would be better than canned speeches.

They won't let her near a debate. She will probably do pre-arranged interviews with prepared questions. The worst part is, independents who would be swayed by her won't notice that she never debated or never got specific. They're folks that don't care about specifics or policies anyway. Thankfully, that subset of independents is a pretty small number.

She can only distract us from McCain for so long.

She can read a scripted speech, smile and look at the camera. Sheeple buy it. Just like Billy Mays...
Why should she answer real questions regarding foreign policy, immigratio or tax reform when she can do that?

Wasn't it Obama who scoffed at the idea of doing these with McCain?

Oprah won't have her on.

Isnt oprah supporting obama? I thought I heard that she would be more than happy to have her on, just after the election due to her current political stance.

how is this a gaffe? FRE & FNM are publicly traded (down 80% today alone, btw) -- make that 85%...and falling still...
She obviously has no idea what Fannie and Freddie are. Some people call if a gaffe, but it's really just ignorance and a standard Republican talking point.

...major concern about Palin's position on the ticket is that she lacks the economic and foreign policy wherewithal to serve as vice president...

Quick, someone ask her what NATO is...

ok, i think i see what's the "gaffe".

keep in mind when she spoke, the story leaked that the gov't was absolutely going to bail them out. i don't see much ado here beyond putting the cart before the horse.

mccain appears to be verklempt & gaseous

how is it a gaffe?

pencils down. no peaking at the huffpo
Answer is not so much a gaffe as she was probably right, but didn't know it..

Meanwhile, as Baker noted, as of July the two lenders were being offered low market interest rates by the fed again, theoretically, at the taxpayer's expense.
But, he added, "I kind of doubt she had any sense of that."
Any chance she was refering to the fact that they are/were huge privately owned institutions but backed by the government? Potentially expensive?

Anyone read the Kilkenny email?

Certainly paints a picture that seems to make sense... and reads like Bush v2 ("now tucked!").
Wow, I had heard about the letter but I just read it for the first time. Imagine if she got into the commander in chief's seat? We'd have a bunch of Wasilla locals heading up the executive branch. Kilkenney is going to take some heat for this.

McCain won't live past the first 2 years, so it's not a question of "if", but more of "when". That scares me more than the thought of McCain for 2 years.

Seems inline with the reporting I've seen, and fails to address the police chief firing, ethics investigations, and false claims of balancing budgets, fiscal responsibility, opposition to earmarks, etc..
I think this article has covered literally just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm not questioning her family life, but thankfully in America, there were be many sleazebags that will.
For me it's a question of policies, always has been. If your daughter is pregnant at 17, then don't preach to me about abstinence. If you want America to "respect her decision to keep the child", then don't talk to me about banning abortion (ie disrespecting everyone else's "decision"). Don't talk smack about earmarks when you've chocked up plenty in the first 2 years in office.

It's like getting diet/exercise/addiction advice from Chris Farley.

What scares me most is the thought of her being an ailing heartbeat away from the button.
I try to pass my values along to my kids. If they accept them, fine. If they develop their own, through whatever means (Hopefully experience, reflection and knowledge...), fine.
But I dont want someone who beleives war comes from her God that close to being able to initiate a nuclear war because Baby Jeebus told her to...

Whos an eliteist now? Cin, you could have fed 30 or so Bangladeshi children for a year with what you paid for that suit...

(From a link on the Factcheck page...)

"Vanity Fair editors estimated that McCain's fierce saffron shirt dress with the popped collar, diamond earrings, four-strand pearl necklace, white Chanel watch and strappy shoes totaled up to $313,100."

Stick to the script, bitch!

Associated Press reporters were not on the plane, but an aide told the journalists on board that all Palin flights would be off the record unless the media were told otherwise. At least one reporter objected. Two people on the flight said the Palins greeted the media and they chatted about who had been to Alaska, but little else was said.

Off the record while running or serving in public office = does not exist...

"So really, I told Bristol to just blow the kid, make him happy that way, you know?"
