Palin Crossed Border For Canadian Health Care
First Posted: 03- 8-10 11:59 AM | Updated: 03- 8-10 12:26 PM

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- who has gone to great lengths to hype the supposed dangers of a big government takeover of American health care -- admitted over the weekend that she used to get her treatment in Canada's single-payer system.

"We used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada," Palin said in her first Canadian appearance since stepping down as governor of Alaska. "And I think now, isn't that ironic?"

The irony, one guesses, is that Palin now views Canada's health care system as revolting: with its government-run administration and 'death-panel'-like rationing. Clearly, however, she and her family once found it more alluring than, at the very least, the coverage available in rural Alaska. Up to the age of six, Palin lived in a remote town near the closest Canadian city, Whitehorse.

Officials at several hospitals in that area declined to give out information on patient visits.

She's been off the news radar lately, she must be getting desperate.

The best thing about Palin is she sorts out the kooks for me. Makes it easy to tell who's a ****ing loony.

No no no, don't you see? Socialism is good when it's a service that *you* can't afford. It's only bad when it's something that you can afford but someone else can't. So back when Palin was poor and couldn't afford health care, it was a *good* thing to use the socialist Canadian health care. Now that she can afford health care but other people can't, socialized medicine is a BAD thing.

Keep up, won't you?

Seems like kind of a reach. (Unless I am missing something) The article said she went to canada for health care before the age of 6. Not many kids have a choice in where their parents take them for health care.

I am no Palin fan but giving her crap about her "socialist" healthcare choices at age 6 seems about as retarded as Palin herself.

Unless I missed something.

You did...

It worked for her family then and the US healthcare system hasn't gotten any better since...

Not quite as good as Mr. Liar (Rep Joe Wilson) and his family who get their healthcare via socialist US Tricare system - a proven system that works well.

Yes, if her parents were good God Fearing Americans® they would have given her capitalist health care or nothing.

So she changed her point of view since she was six. I still think that this is a reach. At age six she didn't have a choice of where she went. At six she probably didn't know anything about politics or governments. (Not that she does now but that's beside the point)

So, no... I did not miss anything. This is just frothing.

It was still better for her family which is why they did it. As was said:

So you think everyone should be held accountable for their actions they made when they were 6? If this was something that happened when she was an adult, if she made the hypocritical decision to use Canadian health care (as opposed to her parents making the decision) then turn around and bash it then you would have an argument.

I am with you on Palin being an idiot but this is nonsense.

Ciaran, the point isn't really holding her accountable for the decision her parents made. It's that she had experience with public health care. She used it. She saw why people need it. It directly benefited her when her family couldn't afford anything else. And now, when she can afford something else, she's against it.

This has nothing to do with her age or her choices at the time. It's that she has positive experiences with the Canadian system and negative experiences with the American system that are diametrically opposed to her stance on healthcare. She can't seem the project her family's situation onto the millions of Americans that are now in the same situation, let alone reach rational conclusions about healthcare systems based on those experiences.

My guess:

Interest will start tailing off right after 2010 election.

She will either start the dancing with the stars routine or hold it together for a run at the primary in 2012, where she will end up in 6th place and disappear forever.

What this is about:

Ridiculing her for being an attention whore.
I'm down with that. But we should lose the self righteous attitude while we do it. She's a political whore no doubt, and like ALL politicians is a hypocritical self serving crook, but there's still no argument here.

This thread reminds me why I should stay out of the political forum... everyone already has their mind made up and has chosen sides. I am no palin fan but I still say that this whole argument is a reach and holds little water. I'm going back to the lounge.

Because Canada's healthcare is waaaaay less socialist than Medicare.
There's no such thing as 'less socialist'. Socialism is a system of government by which the government controls the means of production, and if you're applying it to a single programme, it's a misuse of the word. Welfare does not equal socialism.

But thank you for exposing your way of thinking.

listen newfag, you obviously haven't met my friend sarcasm.

more importantly, do your homework. socialism is an economic system, not a political system. maybe you won't sound completely retarded next time.
