Some of the comments are classic. One guy referred to Obama as a "communist"

Apparently some of it has been validated too.

My favorite comment:

For anyone who says the McCain camp with predictibly try to claim this is Obama's doing...

Anonymous is not a group that is for hire. It has no leaders, it has no structure or organization. It is a group of people who more often than not will do things for the sheer laughs of it.

Every once in a while they decide that some cause or another is just and will band together to support it.

Most of the time, they simply do it for the lulz.

basically, instead of downloading the e-mails into thunderbird or something, some btards took a few screenshots and then it got relocked.

Wikileaks is down http://wikileaks.org/wiki/Sarah_Palin_Yahoo_inbox_2008
Dunno what was on the wikileak site, but all that was on the site I posted was screens.

I think the most impact that will come of this is some proof the she did indeed have too much overlap of her political life and her personal life.

I think it's kinda sad that hacker groups are becoming the whistle blowers, and step in to take action where the government's hands seem to be tied. Someone has to do it.

The "hacking" wasn't even really hacking, yahoo's security is really crap, and if someone knows basic information about you, they can get in

The American public cares more about moose than troopergate anyway.

Oh I totally agree. But its going to be interesting to watch the fallout of this.

I find it absolutely brilliant that some 4chan /b/tards "hacked" her account and now the right wing blogs are all over it like these kids had some sort of actual, real political agenda. This was the cyber equivalent of having her house TP'ed. "Anonymous" being described as terrorists make you sit there and ask yourself, "is the right REALLY this dumb"? Papa-bear Bill-oh calling 4chan "a far left wing website that provided child porn to pedophiles" is just ludicrous. It's late-teen and college kids just posting crude photochop jokes, calling each other fags, and posting boobie pics of each other!! Wow, who woulda thunk /b/tards would beat the Karl Roves!

(un)Fortunately Palin is the proverbial "gift that keeps on giving". She is a trainwreck in motion and we can't get enough of it! Every pol seems to have a scandal/misquote/accusation or two that gets out. (S)he gets raked over and then either he's shunned or it fades away when the next pol makes a blunder. So is the cycle of life in American pop-latics.

However, Mrs Palin & the McCain campaign on the other hand keeps feeding these blunders, missteps, and such to the world on a silver platter. She is a young politician (by comparison to her running mate) and has teenage kids, so she should be well aware that everyone these days has a cell phone with a camera. Tivo and video cameras are easily accessible and are a lethal combo to those who are bad at the art of truth telling.

For a politician these days it is just flat out inexcusable to lie and not expect to be called out on it down the road. You can't really argue against a tape of yourself saying you were for something that you are saying you were against all along (bridge to nowhere, earmarks), or quote passages from an anti-semite author (acceptance speech), or claiming you don't know what the VP does all day (cable news show), or egging on shockjocks to call your female opponent sexist names and then claim sexism at the drop of a hat (yep, she did that too)...this is just another in a string of faux-pas that shows that the force is not so strong in this one.

The right can't claim the media is "ganging up" on her. They're just doing the vetting job that he Republican party was too lazy to do. Had they picked someone who was already in the public eye and scrutiny these incidents would not be as liable to have occured.

I am an Obama supporter since early on. In June/July I was hoping he would choose a Kathy Sebelius or Brian Schweitzer for his running mate. Boy am I now glad he didn't! These two are in the public eye a lot more than Palin and you now see why Biden was such a strong and prudent choice.

This incident really makes me question her ability to hold an office like the Vice Presidency on an entirely different level. On top of the extremist views on nearly every social issue, the general lack of knowledge of both domestic and foreign policy, the apparent lack of intellectual curiosity and worldliness, and the loose ethics and cronyism that is abundant in her short terms in public service you now have to ask yourself if she can't handle the security features on a flippin yahoo email account can she even remotely be trusted with the security codes to the world's largest collection of stuff that blows stuff up?!?!

it isn't a political agenda but grasping for attention. If it was a political agenda, then they wouldn't have bragged about getting in before downloading the entire mailbox
No, my point exactly; maybe I needed to use a more sarcastic tone when using the word "brilliant". These are kids who probably would have sacked Obama or Biden's account if they had an opportunity (count out McCain since he doesn't use email despite inventing the blackberry ;) ). But, the right is treating this like an inside political job and making reference to Watergate. Like Obama contracted some 4chan kids to do it or something.

Personally, I don't think they would have done it to anyone in the Obama camp. Based on their last major target (Scientology) it gives me reason to suspect that they get their jollies from calling people/organizations out on their bullsh*t and want to attract more negative press to them. But I very well could be wrong. Some people just like throwing gasoline on a tire fire.

Do not pay attention to the stock market or issues in general!!! Look, LOOK at this instead! The media hates Palin, why why WHY does everyone have to be so sexist about poor Sarah Palin? Turn the camera off of those nasty headlines about the crumbling financial market or massive layoffs. Stop asking people whether McCain has changed his position after advocating for less government regulation back in March! This election isn't about issues, or who would be better at leading the economy, it's about who you'd rather sit down and have a beer with. Pay attention to MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Well, honestly I would rather drink with Obama...unless she showed her boobies, and her slutty daughters boobies. Then, and only then, would I pay attention to her. But I still would nt vote for her and the old guy.

If it were truly malicious or politically inspired they would have quickly downloaded the emails and then handed copies off to Alaskan authorities, the DNC, the National Enquirer, and the NY Times.

Instead they just took some screenshots and peeked at a couple emails to prove it was really her account. Then they sent a "haha" email to her assistant telling them they hacked it.

This is just people pranking a public official for her stupidity not a political issue. If Barack or Joe were as careless with their personal emails as she was they would deserve this little public humiliation too.

My question though, why does the Secret Service need to be brought in to investigate if this was her personal email and nothing government related...unless...

The point really is, do we focus on the trivial, irrelevant, or stupid; like Palin's email password or yahoo security? Or can we get back to her qualifications and positions?

From what I've been told by several people now, her account wasn't so much hacked, as that they were able to use her security question to guess her password. Thing is, this is just crazy enough to be true.

I'm not sure how the legality goes, but by not doing anything (other than taking screen captures as proof) if/when they get caught (judging that this was done by a Anonymous, I think they would have enough foresight to cover their tracks as best as possible), I think by NOT downloading anything, (and just taking screens) it would limit the legal repercussions they would face. This is a logical conclusion I came to, but then again the US legal system doesn't normally operate on logic.

I suspect it was done more to expose Palin's use of a public email system for government purposes, not to dig up any content contained in said emails.

I think given the fact that she's running for VP alongside McCain, this IS relevant, as it shows how little regard she has for the security of sensitive gov't information as it relates to her using a public email account for government purposes. If she's fvcking up with security this much as a governor, I don't even want to imagine what kind of boondoggles she could unleash as VP of the entire country.

It would take huge power and influence to bring the site down, and while what they did (or permitted to occur) was wrong, it is far more ominous how their freedom of speech has been squashed by the powers that be in the US, even though they operated outside of the United States.

We are clearly ****ed and only continue to exist at the whim of our masters. As of today, it's official: America™ is no longer the land of the free.

I wonder why it took so long.

Just to mount a minor defense, wikileaks was down at my posting and was up within minutes afterward. All the mirrors were down too. There has been some history of interference with DNS at the registrar level, and since all of wikileaks was inaccessible, I suspected governmental interference. This is apparently not the case, and I retracted my statements as soon as I was proven wrong.

I guess 4 minutes wasn't quick enough. :ban:

This seems to be a theme with most of your posts. There's a reason knee-jerk reactions get a bad rap, and a reason that conspiracy theorists don't have alot of credibility.

Former attorney general Alberto R. Gonzales told investigators that he could not recall whether he took home notes regarding the government's most sensitive national security program and that he did not know they contained classified information, despite his own markings that they were "top secret -- eyes only," according to a Justice Department report released yesterday.

Gonzales improperly carried notes about the warrantless wiretapping program in an unlocked briefcase and failed to keep them in a safe at his Northern Virginia home three years ago because he "could not remember the combination," the department's inspector general reported.

Oh I'm fully aware of the difference. However, its not the content of the gov't information that was being transmitted that is of relevance, its the fact that she was using non gov't controlled email systems for gov't purposes. My understanding is that all gov't email systems are backlogged and archived for legal purposes, ie to create a "paper" trail (albeit virtual). She was using a yahoo email account to circumvent this.

It is hard to believe she would understand legal documents and how it applies to emai. She did graduate with a Communications degree from North Idaho.

And whats to say, that yahoo doesn't archive these messages?

I have to say I'm with JK on this one. The fact that there is an outright witch hunt for some kid with half a brain for outing her account is funny to me when there isn't so much as a reprimand for her on using Yahoo to discus covert government works.

This happens ALL THE TIME. Folks in charge use personal unsecured email and phones so "the man" doesn't know the business without regard for the fact the EVERYONE ELSE can now see.

I played Information Security Officer for my Guard unit for over a year and was blown away at how unsecured the information was when I got there. I was also an IT in the Navy and it was bad, too (but not nearly as bad).

To think the people who are supposed to be running at least a portion of the country are found doing things we could send people to jail for (discussing military operations vis non secured methods) and don't even get a stern talking to is ridiculous.
