The Greenville News put together a nice article for todays paper to help get more spectator attendance out to our race this coming weekend. I have been doing my best to help make our event one that all DH Racers would want to attend this year with pulling in a lot of great Product Sponsors and Title Sponsors. I sat down on the side of the trail Sunday to explain our sport and what makes it so fun. I also did my best to explain the history of our sport and its ups and downs. You know why its not as big as it was in the late 90s and how its dropped off the main stream in the US. I then explained to him why the X Games is as big as it is now, when it was so small back in the late 90s. Because it was brought to the main stream through being hosted in larger metropolitan areas. This is what I am trying to do with this race. Greenville is a smaller city than say Atlanta GA or Charlotte NC, but we are a very large county. The biggest in the State. We are also a great staging area for big outside events. We have played host to the USA Cycling Road Companionships the last few years and will have it again in 2009. Paris Mt is one of those reasons why. It is a lonely Mt sitting right in the middle of our city. It provides about 1000+ft of elevation change. By bring this race to Greenville I hope to do the same with our sport in the South East. Hope it opens more doors for our sport and its local Pros or future biking talent. Future plans for the event is to add Cross Country Racing, a Super D race along with the DH Race at the Park. Maybe have Road racing downtown during that weekend too. I could see it growing to a like Sea Otter event, but a End of the Year event to celebrate cycling and all that has happened in that year of cycling.
I hope you guys enjoy the article and below are two of the pictures that where in the paper:
