WASHINGTON — US evangelical preacher Pat Robertson levied blame Wednesday for the devastating earthquake in Haiti on Haitians themselves, saying that the country "swore a pact to the devil" at its creation.

"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," Robertson said on his Christian Broadcasting Network show "The 700 Club."

Haitians were originally "under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil," said the 80-year-old former presidential candidate.

"They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal," the televangelist said.

"Ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other."

It's not just Pat Robertson. Here's a comment from the photo gallery you posted earlier.

Mother Theresa said "You'll never know Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you've got". So many in Haiti now know this first hand. Some do not because they don't know Jesus. My prayer is that ALL will know Jesus and know that He came and died for ALL so that ALL may live. John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life".

Why don't we just love one another and help mankind however we can, whether it's financially, prayer, or going to Haiti yourself and physically helping instead of being so hateful. My heart goes out to these people. It could easily have happened here.

And remember, it could have happened here. That would make it a real tragedy instead of just a reminder to get down on your knees and start pleasin' Jesus.

Banality of evil, and all that...

Jesus was a carpenter, not a search and rescue worker.

and to get people to send you $$$
You'd figure God could just create the stuff, no? Fvck, the federal reserve can do it with paper and ink. You'd think the all powerful creator of the universe could figure that out?

Instead he's going around and killing thousands of people in Haiti. Always having fun, never working. Seems like it's always the 7th day with him...

As much as I despise religion, I try to remember that there ARE religious people who are not completely ****ing retarded. They are a rare breed, but they exist.

Exactly. Let's not forget that this dude does not represent all of Christianity, thankfully!

What a friggin' moron...
It's getting to the point where I feel like Abraham trying to convince God that there are righteous people in Sodom and Gomorrah.

Like God, you have to look really hard to find that needle (Hi Andy/manimal!) in the haystack (American Christianity).

Says Glover: “When we see what we did at the climate summit in Copenhagen, this is the response, this is what happens, you know what I’m sayin’?” His obscene opinion would be bigger news if Glover had – in the manner of others – idiotically blamed a less-fashionable deity.

Dear Pat Robertson,

I know that you know that all press is good press, so I appreciate the shout-out. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks people when they are down, so I'm all over that action. But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. I may be evil incarnate, but I'm no welcher. The way you put it, making a deal with me leaves folks desperate and impoverished. Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with people, they first get something here on earth -- glamour, beauty, talent, wealth, fame, glory, a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have nothing, and I mean nothing. And that was before the earthquake. Haven't you seen "Crossroads"? Or "Damn Yankees"? If I had a thing going with Haiti, there'd be lots of banks, skyscrapers, SUVs, exclusive night clubs, Botox -- that kind of thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so not my style. Nothing against it -- I'm just saying: Not how I roll. You're doing great work, Pat, and I don't want to clip your wings -- just, come on, you're making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad. Keep blaming God. That's working. But leave me out of it, please. Or we may need to renegotiate your own contract.

I fail to understand how Pat Robertson being an ass is news anymore. Remember, this is the same guy who said that 9/11 was Gods wrath for our immorality. Why hasn't this guys been completley marginalized and forgotton by now? Because people keep making a big deal out of him saying stupid sh!t. Ignore him and he will go away. we will all be better off
