Here`s one of my first " propper " (cough) downhiller.

After two rides the bushes were worn out on the leader fork and amp frame.

It was like riding a bannana.

Nuke-proof hubs, sdg seat, magura hydrolic rim brakes and cooks bros crank which came of my Kona hei-hei.

I built a bike up with TNT hubs and kooka cranks back in the day. It was 22lbs in '97, which isn't too bad. I wanted Nuke proof hubs because they were carbon, but wasn't able to get them. Thats one thing I liked about mtb back in the mid 90s, there were lots of small companies producing odds and ends

I think someone bought out the company name......the springs are coming from the U.K aren't they?

I remember my LBS getting one of these:

Man, did I want it.

I ended up getting one of these instead:

Pretty much identical to the picture. Back then it was rated as one of the top 4 DH bikes. Lopes had two of them with two(!) of the four existing pairs of BoXXers...

The Nuke Proof name has been sold a whole bunch of times since they were actually making stuff. When I was with a previous company, they approached us about selling it, no dice.

I lusted after their stuff hard when I was younger. The carbon hubs were pretty much the best thing ever. Ah, memories...

Lopes has never owned a carbon LTS. And when he did ride Boxxers (96'-98') the forks were more plentiful than 4 pairs.

something like 10 years ago I almost bought a bike with this frame...

Kestrel Rubicon ... but mine woule be the DH version, with 2 shock, both FOX Alps 5R... 7.6" of travel.

The bike had full 97 XTR group, Speed Freak rims and RST Hi-Five fork.

Then MBAction of the time lied to me. I remember being excited that I had the same bike as Lopes.

Edit: Or I may be remembering someone else???

I wanted one of those bikes when they came out becuase I could race XC on it and then put on the second shock and race DH! Anyone ever ride one? I'm curious as to how it rode

I had a test ride around the block, but It was flat asphalt, the bike was in the garage for more than a year and I was only 13 or something like this, sooo... no review, haha!

I have to say I did not buy the bike because I think it was stolen, the frame used to cost US$2200 in that time and the guy was selling the bike with full XTR group for R$1500 here in Brazil... less than US$1000.

I dreamed with this bike for months... it was impressivelly light, full carbon, with air shocks and XTR parts... I´d say it was less than 17kg for sure.... amazing for the time.

There are a couple of review on mtbr.com (http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Bike/product_18250.shtml) but it´s from the time when people were proud to say they´ve got AVID V-brakes on their DH bikes, so... I don´t think it will be so helpfull, hehe!
