any pictures of the Boulder (Starship?) w/ the rear shock integrated into the top tube? kinda similar to the Balfa Bel-Air, but about a half decade or more earlier.

Here is on of my favorites, an old kawasaki, and an old full suspension from Thick Bikes. Notice the latter has horizontal drop outs. It was designed for use with a nexus hub.

The first suspension bike
My buddy had one of those old Kawasaki bikes when we were kids back in the 70's and we are still riding together today. thanks for the pic I'll have to show it to him.

That boulder that Myles rode was about 4 years ahead of his time-so much travel, I remember sitting on it and it felt so awesome, I am sure if I sat on it now I would laugh. I rode it in Durango 92'....wicked bike.

That Marin was my DREAM bike back in the day. I remember Earthquake Jake had a super-custom on, the Ti frame, but he had Mag 21 SL-Ti rear shocks on his, since he was sponsored by Rock Shox. Super, super cool stuff!

On another note, anyone remember the Crossland frame? 4" of travel rear, looked kinda like a San Andreas. Plus they made their own fork, a 4" travel beast with super-big (for then) stantions, and an unheard-of 4" of travel. That was one of the coolest bikes I can remember seeing back then...couldn't find a pic on google, anyone have more luck than me?

JJames

its a Manitou, not a Marin

Heh, we're still making those Porsche bikes. I think Porsche planned to strap them to the tops of their new S.U.V.'s so they could drive around and look HARDCORE!!! :p

Oh yeah, that pic of Phillippe "Parakeet" Parakis on a Sunn bike with the squeaky Formula brakes (bad ass bike of the time) and in Cap D'Ail to boot is BAD ASS...I don't know how that little dude went so fast with so much armour on! Fiesty little bastard too...He led a few of us into an almost boy-cott at the Big Bear WC one year when they ****ed up the registation of the international riders. HA HA good times!

I can ask him if he wanted to get rid of it? I think he might still owe me some money for it too!?!
After that bike I got a Marin Team DH (1997?) with a whopping 5-1/2" travel- the one with the red mainframe and a black rear-end. That was the frame Marla was riding (ummm Marla  ...) but the factory people got a white mainframe with an orange rear to match the Manitou forks. My buddy still has (had) THAT frame too?
He doesn't ride much but he sort of collects wierd stuff. He has some almost vintage road stuff, some older mt bikes and last I talked to him about 7 iguanas and some other various reptiles. Seems people think they will make great pets but once they get a little bigger and more agressive they end up giving them to him.
If you are serious send me a PM and I will give him a call on Tuesday - going to Cypress (outside Vancouver) tomorrow and then up to Whistler to ride on monday.

I rocked an AMP B-3 for a while, did my first DH race on it too, with a Judy DH (with an SL crown with the Ti bolts, and a super-rare WTB machined fork brace) and Magura hydro brakes.

Any chance you buddy might want to sell that bike? Or at least the frameset or anything? I've always, always wanted one, just like the Grafton Re-Entry levers and Mag Lite brakes, which I now own. Now that I have the money to buy things, I'm trying to go back and reward myself for rocking Exage crap on my bike in the early 90s because I was a poor high school student.
Anyway, I'd be super-interested if he would consider it...

Not quite old but it's a derivative of the Vario Techno that Be One used for their team before they adopted the current Be One Team DH.. Finally got one after years of wanting it...actually 3 of them. :)

Dave (dw), I found the backup disc of my old webpage (for those old enough to remember BadMofo's site- Gravity's Native Son)...you owe me like some schwag and like stuff. I dug deep for these ones and it's 3AM. :p

speaking of Be One..
This was the Vario Techno version of the Be One.

Alex, I hope the H20 bottle cage was made of carbon too.

Lenz Sport... sex wax not included.

Avanti D8... lawn mower engine sold separately.

My very first DH race rig.
McMahon (MRC) B.U.F.F. -Big Ugly Fat F*cker ...Used "live eyelet design" that is still being somewhat used on recent FS designs.. This frame made me hate bushings for life....

Jan knew how to be subtle..

I still want the one of these old Octane DH frames from Scott.. very adjustable.

Speaking of my old website, I used to have this page that showed my bike build.
The spec kist was from my very first "sponsor" race bike. Note that from the specs, I'm still running the front Hadley hub, Hope DH4 (first gen), Hutchinson Jumbos and 321 rims to this very day.

I'm beat... but I've got many many more bike pics.
Latez

edit: Just James -still have your "Giant" DH frame?? I'm interested.. :)

I've always wanted one of those frames too, they're so beautiful and look amazing with the dorados.

Whoops, yeah, you're right. But I still drooled over the Ti Marin more than just about any bike...

Orvan-
Yeah, I've still got the frame, it's in the workstand next to me, with one of Myles Rockwell's "Le System" Michelin wheels in it. Pays to be in good with the team mechanics. Now if I could only figure out how the hell it works...

If you've got a Sunn Radical Plus frameset or a Scott Octane DH frameset, I'd be interested to trade one of these..

The rocker link plates are getting beefed up from stock.

stik...getting into the sport, I've always liked this pic of Leigh..

Orven...no pics of your old Storm?
see in the background of the Be Ones... It's actually a Storm rearend mated to a custom Rock Lobsters/Ahrens front triangle. Just scruffing some funds to get a deepcup headset and I'll build it back up again since I have a spare durdado. It's a fun corner-worker frame.

Whats up Orvan...I always loved that pic too, loved that Red white and blue gear we all designed too. That chromo bike shes on in that pic, was some taiwanese goose roach we found in the warehouse, it was ritchey tubing XC bike, we put it together for a pit bike, but she loved it, made it her slalom bike that year, won a lot of races on it. Yay for Taiwan. (Need more run on sentences?)

this one i really like but havent had the pleasure of seeing one in person.

i like steel in dh bikes.

its from new zealand i suppose?
Yep its from New Zealand allllllrighty. :)

A couple of guys I ride with have them, they're pretty indestructable.

That Ancilotti has a very similar linkage, but then so do most MX bikes!

Ha, cool. I've been looking for a picture of the "Battle Axe" for a while, I wanted that frame bad. It had 1" square stays, which when you consider a completely square structure, made em pretty massive.

My old 1998 Rocky Mountain DH Race. Bustin the Mammoths, 99 Boxxer, magura HS33s, Kooka cranks...

In 99 I got the boxxer, in 98 I had the Xvert R on it. I learned that the Xvert R did not like to be dropped off loading docks, as the plastic internals would all jam together...

So are we dealin or are we dealin? :)

I'll prolly not dig too much deeper.. Too many pics. I did find some cool old photos like that of my first ever podium at Squaw Valley in 99 during the WC with two flat tires and no chain. Good old sports class days.

Boulder Wild Thing..wild alright.

I was like, if Bianchi made that in Ti, I want one -with matching Bianchi road saddle.

Benest.

This is me at Annadel State Park when I converted my MRC BUFF to a trail bike. I liked that old Z1.

Razok Rock's Anti "PASTA" dh fork. Carbon uppers.. couldn't have ridden that bad and as flexy as a pasta noodle..It really felt like crap. It was a good billboard for their 20mm razor rock hub though.

Mandatory Be One..sorry but I'm a fan.

The Vario Techno

I almost bought one but when I got near getting all my funds, Chuck went out of biznezz...Nooooooo!

James, let's talk. Let's deal yo!!

Sunn Proto.. I want.

98 Sunn Radical

Kestrel Rubicon DH.. I had my Kestrel catalog indexed to this frame's page. ahahahaha

Wheeler.. wheeler had some really good value bike lineup like KHS does nowadays.

Ram 9.. a local Sacto builder jimmied this one up.

This one was up there on my list until KHS/Pacific ruined my fantasy.

Arrow was just not pleasant in frame building.

How many remember this 99 Intense Prototype. Only second frame than the Be One to use 100mm xtr BB.

Pre-swiss cheese Sintesi Bazooka. I remember when the Sintesi showed up at Big Bear WC when they had matching green Super T lowers.. I wanted those green Super T. Corrado Herin, ale' ale' ale'

Me, just today, riding on LOOnatic's 70's (I think) Kawasaki 80.

I'm still looking for orange color saddles!!!!!
