I used to have one of those 2000 ATXs. I loved it... although that AC chainguide was a pain to deal with so I switched it out for a Mr.Dirt Gizmo.

LOL, nice chain guide. Was that the bike co-developed with rockshock?
No, that's the one they ripped off from 3D Racing.
The Paul Turner/Giant/Tomac bike had a shock in a similar place, but it had some sort of link that gave it a rearward axle path.

I was trying to find a pic of it somewhere, but I don't have the energy to troll Google for it. Bonus points if it's the one painted salmon, like the fish...

This one? Obviously not the salmon one though. Not seen that one.

Nope, that was another proto being used at about the same time at the ATX-1 (98-99 era), not sure if it was ever produced in N. America but might have seen limited release in Europe. I know Rob Warner rode that frame for a while in those years.

The Rock Shox/Paul Turner design predates this frame quite a bit and used a pull shock mounted in front of the downtube by the bottom bracket. And, if my memory of 1995 serves me correct, it was a URT (thats Unified Rear Triangle for thsoe of you fortunate enough not to have ridden through the early years of mtn. bike suspension disasters). Tomac tested it for a bit towards the end of the season.

something like this but with a yellow front end and purple rear triangle. Also, the pivots were under the bottom bracket i believe, making the swingarm move rearward. i remembered after i sketched this one and didn't feel like changing it.

Where'd you get that pic? Weird to see it all shiny and new, mine is totally worked over.

That was one of the designs the were looking at, along with the single pivot w/shock linkage DH Team that ended up being the one to go into production.

Personally, I kind of liked the one you have pictured there, I think it rode a bit better, and with the slightly rearward axle path, it was really smooth.

Even after the '02 DH bike launched, there was still talk of introducing that one, perhaps with a different front triangle, as that one was just based on the ATX DH frames. Only bummer is that they tended to crack around the BB, I'll post a picture tonight, but it's funny, there is a 100mm BB shell welded onto this super-narrow frame, with these "wing" gussets to try to hold it on. Not the best idea, but it was just a proto...

The same guy who did the Maestro bikes designed this one.

I have one, but it's got a pretty crappy shock on there. Keep meaning to get it back running with something a bit newer, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll post up a pic tonight...

I remember seeing one of those being sold on ebay a few years back out of the UK.

Didn't they opt for the linkage bike in 2002 because of the better center of gravity?

I also remember on Giant's website, when you would go check the geometry of the ATX DH Team, a silhouet of this prototype would show the measurements.

There were some team bikes, and then the test protos. Mine is a weird mix of both. Myles' extra front triangle with the rear end of one of the test bikes that had it's front end crack.
There were a couple of reasons, but that was one, yes. Regardless, it's a great-riding bike, I think I still have one of the old-ass ugly Yellow/Purple/Red Fox DH jerseys if I ever get it build back up, so I can rock the old-school fugly look...

I remember that about the website, that was funny. Lazy IT folks at the home office I guess...

Here is a pic of my old KHS Dominatrax, which I think qualifies as obscure although not that old, think I got in 2002? It had the weirdest suspension bob ever.

Sup,

Anyone have a pic of that old Scott USA carbon fs frame? I can't remember the name of it though. I guess it was like 1996 or so...that frame looked pretty cool...

Thanks chufta...:clapping:

I haven't seen a pic of that bike for awhile. I used to check out the UK mags for just a glimpse of it...

Did you ever get a chance to ride it?

Dolt.

I do remember Mountain Bike Action's (the magazine, back then)comments, under a photo of this bike. They were just making fun of the name... (loosers).
This bike still looks cool.

Anyone remeber those Scotts with suspended top tube? My buddy had one in 95 i think with a fox air shock on it, and from what i remember the bike was a ton of fun....

My first full-sus frame, in 1997:

Scott Neva, with odd-ball top-tube pivot!

Mine cracked under the headtube, my dad got someone he worked with to weld it up, but I didn't trust it and bought a Coyote DH1 to replace it.

I was GUTTED when I found out recently that my parents had thrown it away :(

Man, Sandro is today's god. Thanks for posting those old pics. Now I can sit in my long friday commute home thinking how I got sucked into buying a Schwinn S-40 URT back in 1996.

cheers!
