I took the front brake off my bike to replace shocks. Somewhere in the process I lost the pin that is attached to the brake and slides into a hole in the shock. I went by two bike shops and they told me that I would have to replace the brakes, b/c I can't get a new pin for my brake. What can I do instead of getting new brakes?

Can I find something like a nail and cut it down to make it work?

I am confused....

You lost a bolt that mounts the brake to the fork? Um, you can get them at any hardware store.

What brakes? If they are like my Gustav's then they had a pin that holds the brake pads in the caliper....did you loose that?

I really didn't get a very good feel on what exactly you lost.

Let us know.

Or are we talking V-brakes or Canti brakes?

If we are talking rim brakes then the pin is most likely the spring and if that shop doesn't have old brake parts bins for springs than go to another one...

worst case scenerio is you buy $10 brakes to replace them.

yeah, sounds like the return spring fell out. Should be easy to get at any GOOD bike shop, they should have some trash ones that they can give you.
