Sheet metal screws work great for me. I drilled out the old pins and put the screws in. Just careful. My feet have not slip at all knock on wood (knock, knock).
Allen head pins (set screws). The ones that Woodman makes look like a good replacement (and won't be impossible to yank out either, unlike set screws (note: I am referring to the flat top pins, not the spikey ones - those would destroy my shoes and my pads too fast).
What works the best for me to replace the pins I tear out in the rocks is cheap allen head bolts that I wind all the way into my A-Frames. I then cut the allen head part off flush with the other pins with big wire cutters. What remains is a chisel-point pin that won't come out ever again and sticks like crazy. I have yet to grind one flat.

I am not sure what the threading is, but they are I believe a little less than an inch long and use the second smallest metric allen wrench I own to install...2.5mm? I have a bunch of them that are in a misc small parts salvage tray I keep. They look like the ones that hold ODI lock ons onto the bars. Basically whenever I break a part, I salvalge all the usable pieces off it and put it in my tray, e.g. the SRAM 9.0SL derailleur on my Scream was pieced together from broken parts off two other ones. If I was a betting man, I would say those bolts are the same ones that tighten ODI lock-on grips. I have busted several over the years and just toss the bolts in my salvage tray.
Those spikes on the woodman pedals look exactly like the track spikes I used when I was in track. I've kicked/gotten kicked when running by them and they are sharp. I have the scar's to prove it.
They'd probably work super good for pedals because they would dull when running on hard surface. Since pedals don't really run anywhere I think they would last a while. Plus the best part is you don't need to worry about removing them. You use a spike key and off they come.
The spikes on my DX pedals are the set screw type. They break/bust off and sometimes can be a PITA to get out. My sun-ringle ZUZU pedals have these giant screws that really offer no grip. Even though I like the look of my all black M1, the DX's with new spikes are going on it. I can't stand the feel of the zuzu's. If I can change those dull spikes out with something that's more grippy I'd try that before getting another set of pedals.
