I deal with John at M&S Anodize. he's the one that does all the bits for Fox (like blue and red top caps). he also used to do all of Rock Shox's anodizing when they were local.

If you're looking for black anno you might have a difficult time. I know at least in San Diego County the process for black has been deemed unsafe or environmentally unfriendly or whatever, we send our black anno stuff to some place in LA. Colors seem to be less harsh though, we can get them done locally.

Isn't that racist? To discriminate against black.

Sorry, hope nobody takes that the wrong way.
Seriously though, I can't think of a reason why black would use different chemicals. All the garage stuff I've ever done was the same with different color dyes.

I've heared you can do it in a bathtub. I don't know for sure what the deal is with black, all I know is that we used to get black parts done locally for cheap then all of a sudden it was done in LA for several times the price. I'm not sure what the dyes are made out of but my guess is that it's the black dye not the process.

Notice I say we can't get blacks but colored is no problem.... sorry bad joke.

FYI Each color uses different chemicals.

The home stuff I have tryed uses an acid bath to give you the base ano and the you just dye it with regular RIT dye. Boiling the piece in water seals the pores and locks in the dye. I'm sure the industrial process is a bit more sophisticated.

I called, i guess they already left for the day. Would you happen to know how much their minimum is, and how long the turn around time is?

thanks

i just got off the phone with them. $45 minimum, not bad at all. we may have a winner
i think i have sent them as many as like 10 pieces to have anodized and it fell under their minimum. just make sure your stuff is new or very clean when you send it in. their turn time is quick too.

Thats a real good price for a lot charge. Usually 55$-60$ lot charge (for decent work) is the standard in the Northeast. Right on!

I'm sure they can get it done but do they pay more for black than they would for a color like red?

It's funny how a place with a name like cutting edge marine makes paintball stuff, I work at a place called deep sea power and light and we make pipe inspection equipment... along with some deep sea equipment on the side.

It started out as Cutting Edge Machine and the marine part is a brand new spin off. I was talking to Dave Johnson over there yesterday and he said he gets great pricing on black because they do so much of it. I'll ask him who he uses down there.

There is a place right by San Jose Airport that can do some cool stuff. I have had them do 3 bike frames and they all came out cool. I can get you a picture of my XC frame on Monday, it is a cool 2 color marble. They are a bit expensive for the fancy stuff. I think I payed $180 for the last 2 frames (lot).

The only picture I can find of the bike. My wife in canada after a 4 hour climb. She hates this shot... Don't tell her I posted it :nope: You can see the top tube. It is blue with spatters of red and green. It's even faster than rootbeer! and way less generic.

did you end up trying them Fulton? What was the outcome?
They were great. i drove down, and they did it same day for me. took about 2 hours. Staff was real friendly, and the product came out great. To top it off, they tossed my parts in with another batch, and I only had to pay $20! Couldn't ask for more!

Sweet deal...where are they located? I'll have to pay them a little visit next week...or might even go this weekend.

For some reason I just cannot get a hold of M&S?

They are in Clovis CA, there are detailed directions on their website, www.atmf.com, one cool thing I forgot to mention, is that they offered to deliver the stuff to me for FREE if I couldn't wait for them to finish it that day!

Oh ya, I spoke with them thursday of last week, I was in the bay, and needed to get some product anodized quickly.....they answered the phones when I called, maybe they were out of the office. Their address was slightly different than what was posted here earlier though. Anyway, I ended sending another batch of stuff down to Ano-tech, so didn't use m&s.
