I've been on a huge Brian Eno kick for the last month or so. That means lots of Eno, Talking Heads, DEVO and Bowie, and a tiny bit of U2 and Roxy music. Thats the intentional listening.

When the Ipod goes to shuffle It seems to go into an Avail/Slayer/Cage/Cale/Modern Lovers/Half Japaneese/Velvet/Pixies loop that is quite enjoyable.
Some of the music the kids listen to today is pretty good, especially a lot of the low-fi post-punky stuff that comes out of Ireland and Scotland.

Right now i am going nuts with diffierent types of music...Action-Action...
Good call! Always good to see local bands getting props. Action-Action's "Don't Cut Your Fabric" is a great album. One of my favorites of the year. With all of the bands coming out of Long Island lately (Taking Back Sunday, Straylight Run, Brand New), Action-Action sorta got lost in the mix. This album is much darker and sharper than Mark's previous work (with either The Reunion Show or the ska band Step Lively). Quality stuff :thumb:

arguably the best thing eno did was produce No New York.

which new irish bands are you referring to? i couldn't find a halfway decent one when i was there (w/ the possible exception of damien rice and the thrills).

When most of the albums you buy were recorded before 1987 "new" has a much looser meaning. I was talking mostly about Belle& Sebastian, who I've been infatuated with ever since their live show totally blew me away this summer, and a recent guilty pleasures "Street Dogs", Hell I was probabally even subconciously including SLF in there . We have a local traditonal irish band full of actual 1st generation immigrants called Big Bad Bollocks, they are a hoot for your St. Patty's day party, and John, their singer hits on my girlfriend unmercilessly, even on his damned radio show.... :sneaky:

I think what really, really makes me happy is all the kids that start bands now that sound like a mixture between gang of four, firehose, and Talking Heads circa Step Into Light. Specifically It brightens my heart when I'm out at the BMX track and gay love anthem "Michael" from Franz Ferdinand comes on the mainstream jock rock station.

For those ofyou into hip-hop if you haven't already heard MF Doom check him out. His newest album is MM..food. Its effin sick. Also his collaboritive album Madvillain with Madlib. Even his alter ego's King Geedorah and Viktor Vaugn are sick. Easily one of the illext mc's out there. As far as metal goes nothing can touch Reign in Blood. Its a true masterpiece.
