Towing the party line.
OK so with the chief asshat's blessing, I have started this thread.

We need a comprehensive sticky telling people to use the search function, to not ask which so and so is best, which color for my bullet etc.

This comprehensive sticky will be formed with input from all, in a competition format (you lose, we vote your ass off the island).

Winner (best sticky text) gets a fancy custom title of our choosing.

Post away.

Sticky: Thread Searches.

Text Content: Due to the increasing popularity of Ridemonkey.com we would like to ask that before posting a new thread that you do some reasearch and advise that you do a search BEFORE posting a new thread. This will provide all users of ridemonkey.com with a better content and prevent thread hijackings and people making you look stupid for not doing research. So don't be lazy go search crazy. It's so easy even Nor-Cal guys can use it... ok leave that last part out

Use your head, use a search function before you post anything here like: "Which is better a v10 or a Cortina?" No one wants to see the same lame thread reappear every week because you were too lazy to search

If you do choose to post "Which is better a v10 or a Cortina?", feel free to give us ALL the information (weight, height, riding style & frequency and budget) Say what you don't like or like in a bike, not "which is better for freeriding?" We can't tell what you mean without expanaition.

Do not get butt-hurt when your poorly phrased question gets "lit up" with smart assed responses like a spliff at a Marley concert, thats what happens.

You will get razed for asking the following questions which have been asked ad-nauseum.
1: Is the RM7 good for freeriding?
2: Is there a Hadley website?
3: What color Bullit is the best for freeriding?
4: Whats the best bike for Hucking?

Why don't you guys just make it so people who don't sign up can't post for the first 30 days until they get a hang of the search function then? :p

I've seen this happen on so many boards.. it seems like the only solution is somebody starts a new board and a bunch of the "older" posters end up on that one. :oink:

Hey,

Well, i have found the search function on here not that good and there seems to be about 1 1/2 years or more worth of posts deleted when RM changed over to the new format.

I agree, im getting sick of reading the "which bike for hucking" stuff but there is only so much you can talk about thats mountain bike related before you start repeating whats has been said. Its probably easiest if you just ignore or delete the offending threads and send a nice PM to the person telling them to use the search function.

Now, back on the topic, can anybody tell me where i can find the hadley website....... :D

Title:
Need Advice or want an opinion fast?!?!?!

Body:
Most of what you are about to ask has already been asked, and answered. Yes, even items about stuff that has not even hit the market yet (RM Spies are everywhere!).

You see when you post a question; you are going to get answers from everyone - if they know what they are talking about or not. Not to mention all the people who feel it is their duty to chastise you because someone else asked the same thing a month ago.

Therefore RM has a search option that allows you to look through all previous post to find your answer. You’ll be able to find tech info, latest products reviewed, and of course – people’s opinions about the products.

If you are wondering what bike/setup/color will make you a better biker… ask the people you ride with. No-one here knows your style/ability/type of trail better than the people you ride with. If you’re still not satisfied, try the regional boards here. Search those threads to see what others are doing.

Please utilize the search function in order to keep the extra posts, and the follow-up whining post, to a minimum. If you can’t find your answer – Post away! Maybe we’ll al learn something!

Good idea, I bet there will be a 5% reduction in redundant, stupid posts, for all of 2 weeks. (mine notwithstanding)

I can take the time to write a really good sticky, but as I think I deserve a custom title anyway, why do I want to compete for it?

Search Research - It's For Your Own Good

Ridemonkey is an awesome resource but like any good resource you must know how to use it. Before asking a question by posting a new thread, take a few moments to use the Search function. Chances are good your question has already been answered, and it will take you less time to find an answer in the Ridemonkey archives than it will to post a question, wait for a response, clarify your question, and wait for more responses.

If you search but don't find anything on point, go ahead and ask a question but when you do, try to provide as much contextual information as you can, such as the kind of riding you do, your size, weight, etc. There is no "best" when it comes to bikes, and since we're usually taking about the high-end, extremely competitive part of the market here, rarely is there even a "better" except where the context dictates a particular opinion. If you don't provide the context, the monkeys can't give you that opinion.

If you ignore all of the archived information, provide no context, and basically ask us to make a hard decision for you, you will be berated by monkey lifers who would rather spend the time to insult you than answer your question, even if insulting you takes more time. Basically, you get out of it what you put in, and it's insulting to ask the monkeys for advice if you haven't done a little grunt work for yourself.

On the other hand, if you do a little research, provide contextual information, and ask intelligent questions, you will either get a clear answer or spark a debate that will let you form your own opinion. And that's pretty much what it's all about.

How about putting in a link to pinkbike? Kinda like teaching a dog not to pee in the house by rubbing their nose in the pee. 'This is what happens when we dont follow the rules!!!!'
