I injured my knee last night in my deck hockey game. I was running behind the net and I felt a pop. I collapsed immediately in pain. Damn did that hurt. I can not put any weight on that leg. It hurts like hell this morning.

A quick trip the ER last night (in and out in an hour!) gave it a sprained lateral collateral ligament diagnosis. They didn't take an x-ray or MRI though. The PA just looked at it. Man, this feels too painful to be a sprain. I plan on seeing an orthopedic specialist for a more thorough examination of the knee. Anyone ever sprain that ligament? What did it feel like? I wouldn't think a sprain would involve a "POP" when it happened. I felt like someone gave me a real hard two handed slash to the knee, but there was no one near me.

Oh that sucks, sorry to hear about it. I'm going to guess you tore something like an ACL.

If you had married an athletic trainer, like I'm going to do, instead of an accountant, you would already know what you did to your knee without a trip to the ER.

You would also not have to go to a physical therapist for treatment.

Well so far "the doc" was a physician's assistant in the ER. He said to wait a couple of days and see how it feels. I'd rather just see a specialist now. So now I am sitting in bed icing my knee, doped up on percocet.

I have a half marathon to run on May 31. I already paid for it! :shakefist:

When I did my LCL for the win, I heard the pop.
Same pop I heard when I did my ACL
And my MCL.

Pops, in my opinion, are never good.
Does it burn like a bitch now, or could you put weight on it if you felt like it?

Dirt, I can put a *little* weight on it, but when I do it just feels like my leg is going to collapse. It feels very unstable. It's icing right now and I'm doped up on percocet, but when I do feel pain, it's a painful ache more than anything.

Dancin' over rocks n' roots!
My knee pops from tears in my patella and meniscus. Definitely stay off it and see a specialist, even it the diagnosis is the same, they can give you much better feedback on what to do, how to do it and when. Heal up baboon!

I haven't done mine, but a friend blew out his ACL and definitely heard the pop. If your insurance allows it, definitely go see a orthopedic surgeon ASAP, as they're one of the few people in the medical establishment that I trust 100%. General practitioners came and went as I was growing up, but I had the same Ortho from age 9 to age 25...

Wrong.

Unless your athletic trainer has an MRI machine in the house, and is qualified to read it..... It wouldn't really help. It's hard to figure out what happened to a knee from the outside, you have to look at the inside!

IAB, Definitely go to a specialist, the sooner the better! The ER is great, they are very knowledgeable people in there, but when it comes to stuff like this, MRI and orthopedist is the way to go! I was in a knee immobilizer for 2 weeks for a "sprain" before I went to the orthopedist, and he said that since I had blown out my PCL, the immobilizer set me back a month.

My own world inside my head
ER Doctors are great at diagnosing sickness, But sorry, they are terrible at sports injuries.

This year when I broke my wrist, I went straight to the injury clinic at kaiser, from there I went straight to sports medicine. They found the break the break on the first look, got me casted up as needed, and started me on the right regiment.

Last year, I went to the ER, who told me I was fine, I jsut hyper extended my wrist's, but a week later the Orth had looked at my xrays and was calling me to get my ass down so he could get me into some proper care because both wrist's are fractured. Because of the wait last year, I wasnt able to be casted, the right wrist has a cool grinding noise now, left one fractures easy, Eventually I will need surgery on the right due to it ealing improperly from the misdiagnosis in the ER.

Get to the Ortho fast, get the MRI done. And heal up, knee injuries suck serious ass

Time to start the Broken Monkey Beer Club!

This week's assignment is to test the effects of beer and Percocets when combined. Phil, I believe we both have the required equipment.

This is a joke everybody, don't mix the narcotics and alcohol, listen to your doctor and pharmacist, they spent a lot of time learning about the stuff they tell you not to do.

Dude, that sucks. Heal up and stop being so OLD!

After my 3rd knee surgery (left knee each time) the doc made me swear off soccer. One of the hardest things I had to do. But he said biking (even the stupid things I do that are still considered biking) was ok and I got a sweet carbon fiber brace to race with in the event I will crash to keep the side to side flex a minimum.

I have never done anything to my ligaments (strong like bull), but I have no cartilage left to tear.

Dang that sucks. I agree, go the Ortho doc for a check up. Are you still training for your half marathon?
