Are they laughing at you? Well, they're not laughing with you....

There are people who think lockouts in general are either a stopgap for a badly designed fork or just unecessary. But I would imagine a SS you have to pump up hills, so a remote lockout is a nice feature...

I am certainly snickering. Lockout is stupid, especially on a fork that can be setup to work perfectly for all XC situations in a matter of seconds...

Why buy a shock if you're going to lock it out? I have the PopLocs on two of my Rebas, I have them installed, just in case, but the only time I've ever used them was when I was on the road, riding back to my car. Even then, I'd be happier with just the little knob on the fork leg like on my other Reba or Pike.
But some folks just won't buy a fork without lockout, so it needs to be on there...

at school dreaming about trails
Ive got lockout on my Manitou Black but its not on the bars like Rockshox style. I dont use it while riding trails but when i ride to my local trail up hills on the road lockout helps alot. i guess if you ride open fields or not rocky trails it would be nice but my uphills are rocky.

I would have loved a lockout at SSWC. On each fireroad climb I found myself watching the fork bob as I was out of the saddle mashing to keep the wheels turning. All I could think about, besides the cramps I could feel coming, was that every bit of bob could have been propelling me forward instead. I'd thought about riding rigid, but I don't possess the skills to finesse my way through the rockgardens like some of the racers did. When I say rockgardens, I mean pretty much everything that wasn't fireroad. :)

There is a time and a place for everything, and I'm not totally against lockout, it's just that I hate the stupid little things mounted up on my handlebars. I have enough going on up there to worry about another knob. The crappy thing about the Rebas is that you can't just replace the remote lockout with a knob on the leg, it's part of the damper...

When I wrote, There are people who think lockouts in general are either a stopgap for a badly designed fork or just unecessary, it was with you in mind.

With the exception of the Headshok, fork lockouts are "blow-off" types, which could be overwhelmed by excessive force, like someone getting out of the saddle. The blow-off is there so the cartridge doesn't blow up if takes a hit while locked.

I personally like the Headshok, which has a physical lockout and does not blow off. But it is up to the rider to disengage it.

You could certainly debate whether you have time to lockout during a race (or remember to unlock...) or if you need if lockout on a short travel fork. But if you want to stop bobbing...
