Anyone else played this exquisitely polished gem of a game? Echo clearly has, looking at his signature.

This game was absolutely the most fun I've had playing a game since the original Doom took Wolfenstien 3D and fleshed it out into a real game. That and maybe Qtest, the Quake test engine since it was the first first person shooter release to use a true 3D engine.

The creative puzzles were thoroughly enjoyable, with the physics being unique but predictable enough to allow you to get really good at it. The creepy solitude of the place was amazingly atmospheric. And, of course, there is GLaDOS who was nothing short of incredible. The dry humor was outstanding and the whole personality was very charming. Like the fixation on cake as a "reward" system - how great is that? Isn't that exactly what you'd expect an outsider to see as being a great piece of bait for a human, like cheese for a mouse?

Anyway, just wanted to see if any other monkeys were as enamored of this game as I was. If anyone hasn't played it, I'd highly, HIGHLY recommend it.

Couldn't agree more. If you're looking for more, there are a few decent user generated maps for Portal on the steam forums. I'm hoping a sequel or 2nd chapter comes out sometime soon.

The cake is a lie.......

Still have to get it. And a 360 for that matter.

I was shown it way before it came out, I did some drum work for the music on the original teaser trailer to Team Fortress. I got to see that and Portal. Awesome concept.

Get it for the PC. Hardware requirements are pretty minimal, and the game doesn't really suffer if you don't have the effects all cranked up.

Hmm.

I'll check if anyone has gotten it to run under Wine.

i waste enough time on here as it stands, thx
Flash version is good too.

I bought the orangebox a while ago which was the first game I bought in about 2-3 years. The first game I played was Portal which I finished in an evening. Great game but short.

I went on TF2 spurt for a while but I haven't played it in a few months. I really liked HL/HL2 episode one years ago but I never tried lost coast or episode 2 included with the orangebox...

It's maybe 3 hours of game time, 4-5 if you're really slow witted.

So I'd say it'll waste only 6 or 7 hours of your time.
It wasn't really meant to be a whole game though, but damn was it fun. The GladDos voice really added to everything, and I like how it's going to somehow dovetail with Half Life Ep. 3. I bet we see the Portal gun in the HL universe, among other things.

They just announced officially that yes, there will be more Portal, no idea of when, but I'm eagerly awaiting it.

A buddy of mine works for Valve doing music and sound. Which sucks, because he moved away to work for them and now I won't be doing drums on any more game trailers.
