I just spent five days in Portland. Is there a better city to visit in the Summer? I wish I had some pics to post, but I was too busy shopping at the nations largest bookstore and drinking a fine microbrew on every corner. Portland should be the model for every American city.

Powells - the store occupies an entire city block, and if that wasn't enough they have a technical book annex a few blocks away. It is a wonderful thing to behold.

Oh and it's just a block away from Whole Foods, and walking distance to a Rogue Brew Pub, and I think even cranky pants SteveW could enjoy a Rogue brew.

Well, they aren't really comparable. Portland is a giant city, Hood River is a small town. Portland has umpteen breweries and shops, Hood does not.

And Crested Butte is way better than Hood River but again, not the same thing.

Yeah I've stayed at Lucia, nice place.

Narlus - Bridgeport is pretty close to Powells too but it's a bit harder to find and I'm not sure how to get there. There is a new brewery called Root that is all organic and all tasty.
