This is strictly a heads up and on the down low. A NORBA rep is taking a trip to NC to a major ski resort to consider it an '05 National Venue in a few short weeks!!!!!!!!

The reason I am posting this is I think it would be truly motivational for racers on the East Coast to show their desire and support for having this venue added. Take into consideration that it is centrally located to EVERY MAJOR CITY on the East Coast, it should have a massive turnout.

The state of Florida alone is the 3rd largest state in the country and they would have a race close enough to attend. Atlanta, Knoxville, Roanake, Washington, DC, Raleigh, Louisville, every major city in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, etc.

Basicly, the reason I'm posting this is to get people to push NORBA. Call, e-mail and write them telling them how bad you want a National in your region. Let them know you'll definitely attend. Give them a good indication of how many riders there really are in this area who want this!!

Pleas copy and post this on every forum (XC, DH, DS,...) you can think of on every site known to man, every newsletter and bike club you can. We desperately need this National to get the nod. :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

dude, who gives a rat's ass about FLA? it's not like it's a hotbed of DH activity, regardless of how many blue hairs are tucked in down there.

Maybe because just like Florida has the largest Skiing club in the country we also have a very large Mountain Bike community. And since we DON't have local DH we HAVE to travel. We do it often and in large groups. So

When was the last time you pulled up to a Mountain Bike trail head in a TOUR BUS and 27 riders came a pouring out?

every park rangers worst nightmare, that is.
Ya they hate it when tourists actually come to tourist destinations.(like PARKS) I guess that is why when we contact them in advance to tell them what we are doing they send us maps in advance rope off parking for us and then show up to ask if there is anything else they can do for us. Either that or they just like sticking their tongue's up our perverbial a$$?

Seriously though and back on topic. If there was a National race closer than SS you would get a big FL contingent. After riding SS this year I am making it a goal to hit up a National next year to race Super-D. The plan is to do SS since I feel I owe it to them, but if there was one in NC no reason not to make it 2. :) There are a bunch of big bike riders that would probably dig the chance to try a DH race. Not to mention the huge contingent of Dirt Roadies that would hit up XC.

This venue would be able to host a National easily.

And when I talk of Florida, Alabama, Georgia I'm not just talking DH...I'm talking BMX/DS riders and XC. Those states are crawling with boatloads and boatloads of racers and riders. Just cehck the "Local Knowledge" section of Bike. SORBA and other organizations sport more members than almost any other bike clubs there are.

Cycling is huge in Georgia and SC.

I think it would be awesome, but we need to do something to boost the turnout at local events as well. I think I saw somewhere that Snowshoe had 200+ in the DH this past weekend. I cannot imagine a local TN/NC race having that many.

Yep, I would love to have a national there simply because a 2 hour drive is better than a 17 hour one.
2 changes are a must though.
1-the course would have to start from the top of the mountain.
I think the local racers can pull together and make sure the course is top notch.
2- They are gonna have to put in a new lift.
I hate to be negative, but I just can't see how they could possibly have a National with that lift. The lift line would be for days, and you can't shuttle all the way to the top.
So Butch tell 'em we will build the course, and they can put in a quad.

If it replaces west virginia then Id be fine with the idea but it just seems like its too close proximity wise to West Virginia to make it worth another whole race. There are lots of great places around mt snow to hold races too but they have been shunned away from it because its too close.

Heiki, Snowshoe is a whopping 6 hour drive north of the state of NC. Just like you guys have masses and masses of riders in the NYC and other big cities that you get for your races, we've got the same monstrous demographic with ATL, Knoxville, Memphis, Orlando, Miami, Daytona, Tampa, Jacksonville, Birmingham, Louisville, Lexington, Raleigh...they all come to our NC mountains to ride because they don't have ANY MOUNTAINS. You guys have 6 or 7 resorts depleting the rider pool on any given weekend. Come time for a national DH...everybody in this region would have every reason in the world to make the drive.

I hope it's either "SUGAR mtn"...........-
or "Gatlinburg,TN"{yeah right}...that's right down the road from me !!!!
Windrock isn't an option cause no lift..But would make a killer course..
Resorts need to jump on the bandwagon during the spring/summer/fall months.
A National also NEEDS a 2x or 4x event/track..
Hey, i think a 3x race a Bigfoot would be better..4 is Too many bodies on that course-especially if you are timid & can't handle riders near you ! .02

Yes... What resort are we talking about if its not wolf? I can't see a national going down at sugar. I'm excited about the chance for having a national in NC though. Believe it or not, there is a scene down here, too. Hope all goes well.

Snowshoe isn't giving up their National. I've heard from several sources that the National will be in August, same with Mt Snow. June is monsoon season for Snowshoe, yesterday's race was almost completely dry, and we just had the remnants of Frances roll through.

If Sugar mtn got a National, they cannot use the lift that they used for the August race. That was probably the slowest lift by elevation gain that I've ever ridden. They were building a new lift while I was there, but I don't think it's a detachable.

Just a suggestion, why dont you cut and paste the e-mail you sent, or at least the meat of the verbage...

IE>.. It is kinda tough to start off an e-mail with... I heard a rumor on the internet that NORBA is considering an additional east coast national some where in NC.

Well actually that isn't too bad, but feel free to let us know what you want it to say.

Between a rock and a hard place.
Is there an existing mountain bike operation there?

Point being, IMO Nationals should be held at locations where facilities can be built, maintained, and remain. That way we can have a quality DH course and MtX course.

....and taking the opportunity to jab ya in the eye about your lack of real mountains.
