In the Northwest.
You will have awesome riding in every direction, plus an abundant amount of people to ride with. If you're coming here for riding, you won't be dissapointed.

There is stuff near Portland: Black Rock (DH course put in over the last couple of years in addition to all the amazing FR stuff) and Post Canyon (gets better every year, and a renewed energy over the last year), as well as a coast range trail that was recently made legit, Timberline looking to add lift access (in addition to the SkiBowl offerings, meager but got a new FR line this past year), plus other trails, just nothing super close to Portland, within an hour for anything serious. WA, as mentioned, like Port A, etc., has great offerings.

Lots of good energy right now around Portland with some hard-working folks trying to get more legal access. Things ARE happening.

If you race, sounds like next year a combined series again for Fluidride Cup (http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Fluidride-Cup-finals-recap-2010.html). I don't claim to be a racer, but IMO it's a great series, a couple of buddies have raced and it's a great community.

More roots than rocks. It rains a lot. Good beer helps with that. Hood River is great if you can get a job there. And Whistler is just a drive away. Good luck!

In addition to what toowacky said: There are some great shuttles off of Timberline lodge at Mt. Hood already (about an hr out of town) where the fluidride super d race was held. lots of vert over about 8 or 9 miles. Also check out the Sandy Ridge Trail system. They have one pretty sweet trail already built with work still going on.

Black Rock and Post Canyon. You're set.

Timberline has plans in the works, but no final approval yet. They're planning to break ground after the snow thaws, but no guarantees yet.

North West Cup is holding a couple races at Ski Bowl on Mt Hood, and while nothing has been announced, Fluidride should be doing the same. While there aren't a whole lot of trail options, the few tracks at Ski Bowl are pretty sick and the races have a cool vibe. There's no pressure or measuring of dicks, just people who like to ride DH having a good time. Bring your bike and camp in the parking lot.

Speculation or inside knowledge? I thought that there was only going to be one series for '11?
