how is he digging that pack? pictures don't do his size any justice. Kuno is a beast.
He doesn't seem to mind so far. Actually seems to chill him out a bit on walks. Just have four 20oz water bottles for some weight. That was the third one I bought. Ordered one off of amazon for $30, pictures were deceiving. Must have been made for a chihuahua. Went to REI and got their brand. It was way too big, so I exchanged it for this one. Much better made and fits really well. Ended up being $80, but I get some back from REI at the end of the year. We'll have to go out for some dog hikes to try it out.
forget dog hikes. Just fill it with beer, cigarettes and cocaine and call him over when on the couch. Much easier than to get the wife trained and to carry a backpack in the house.

Update. Roo is 6 months old, and she's up to 9-10 miles on runs now so I'm going to start taking her on shorter trail rides when my new bike shows up.
This weekend there was a festival in one of the ports in the harbor and a there was a Naval ship docked and they had a Cattle dog that lived on board. Jack the Cattle Dog was kind enough to let Roo on the ship and give us a tour, here are a few pics

Here is my new puppy Trek he's a Silver Lab. Awesome little guy
Awesome lab. Years ago, we took in a silver lab puppy to find it a home and keep it from going to the shelter. It was a lab mix, but it was that exact same color. Beautiful dog, but we had two young dogs and could not keep it. Anyway, we found it a home and hoped it was a good one. Years later, my wife found the couple we gave it to on Facebook, and that big fat joker was living the life. Those weirdos actually had albums up of the dog's birthday parties. 
Such a cute silver! Unfortunately for my little guy (black lab mix), he had some weird bone issue in his right front leg (head of the humerus shattered for no good reason, and bones in the joint were unusually soft), so now he's a tripod. As expected, he is making remarkable progress learning how to hop around, and even managed to mount the cat yesterday. Not gonna be a trail dog, but he should be able to do everything else, which mainly consists of making my daughter unbelievably happy. And somehow, he is even sweeter now.

Here is a cool video of my dog on trail.
Here's the most recent addition to our household, Kipsang (name resulting from being tired of going through options and randomly naming him after a marathoner) or just "Kip". We've had him for just over a month now and we think he's about a year old. He was apparently found behind a Costco on a couch. We had him inside for all of about 30 seconds when we got him before he plopped down on our couch, so clearly there's a certain comfort level there.
We're working on the usual walking on a leash, crate training, etc and also getting him out for some trail running. He seems pretty focused on following my wheel when we go out (girlfriend runs with him behind) so I'm hopeful that some day he'll be trustworthy enough to be a good mountain biking companion.

Thanks! Yeah, we wanted a slightly weird looking dog and we certainly found one. And he's been really good, especially for having been a stray. Biggest issue now is that he has a bit of a scary sounding bark when he's on a leash and we encounter either a guy that he hasn't met or another dog. He's not remotely aggressive, he just wants to meet everyone, but it's still a little much and he can wind up scaring the crap out of people. It's a work in progress.
all three of our dogs are like that too unfortunately. they bark a lot when they see new people theyve never met before and sometimes scare people off. one of mine was a stray too and i cant believe how awesome he is despite living on the streets.
It would be great if we could get him to stop doing that at least a little. We live in a pretty congested area so every time I walk him it feels like there's a good chance of an encounter. We're starting an 8 week training course with him next week so I'm hoping that gets him a bit more used to meeting new people and dogs.

One of our rescues is a golden/lab mix. That dog is 9 years old now and still full retard, all the time.

Momentous day, 3 1/2 months after surgery to repair his damaged left front paw Kozmo is finally free of sutures, pins, splints and wraps. Now we just have to take it slow and easy to build back the muscle tone with easy, controlled, daily walks.
