We have been blessed with some really nice weather in New York the last month and today was another one. 10 laps in the park or 33.5 miles and there should be no more turkey left in the system. Just a little depressing to have to use easier gears as the summer shape is not there anymore.

In how cold weather do you guys ride road?

Wish it was me but no plan to leave New York.
A good portion of my winter riding takes me into the mountains, where it gets down to the 30's. SoCal doesn't really get much colder than that, so I have no experience riding in anything colder.

I've made it down to 20 before. I will probably try riding colder than that this winter since I moved to upstate ny.

I'm thinking on some evening laps tomorrow if the weather holds off. Game for it?

Also, if you're trying for that type of mileage, there other places to go besides Prospect Park. That place will bore you to tears if you don't have tunes or a riding partner.

I really, really prefer riding in cooler/wetter weather, which is why I LOVED living in Monterey. 60s, drizzle/fog/clouds. I prefer getting a bit more suited up to ride; arm/knee warmers, vest.

When I was in Carson City, I'd ride down into the 30s and 20s, I had some decent cold weather gear. The Sidi heated insoles really helped too, kept my toes nice and toasty.

SoCal is much warmer, so all year no problem, just need motivation and time. Right? :)

I call it when the wet stuff starts turning to the white stuff. A few years back we dropped off the ridge where I live then rode north through the valley and headed back up to the ridge 30 miles from home. Half way up hwy 84 the wet started turning white. We had warm gear, tights, booties, long sleeve jerseys, beanies, and rain gear but 30 miles on hwy 35 in slush, snow, rain and wind at around 32* at 2000 to 3000 feet just sucked the life out of me. never again

I pretty much only ride MTB when it gets below 40...I tend to be cold when it's 60 outside. On the MTB, I wear layers and boots (flat pedals) when it's below 30. Coldest I have ever ridden was Feb. 8, 08, hubby's birthday ride; air tem was 15 with a windchill of 9. Damn cold and probably wouldn't do it again but we did enjoy several interesting crashes due to brake failures :busted:
