Check out this drawing. The smaller fence line of jumps down the left side was never built. The other lines get pretty huge; each double is longer than the next. My philosophy is different. Big is fine, but if you build stuff that virtually no one but pros ride, you won't have a successful spot that is well maintained. To have a critical mass of riders who hang out there and pitch in to help, you need to have a little bit of easy, a lot of medium, and some hard stuff for challenge.

. . . to clarify, i'm talking about city-built or bikepark style spots. the above spot was built by a expert/pro and it was his spot before it was torn down and re-built.

I agree and have been changing some lines at our trails to allow younger and/or less skilled riders to still have fun. I bring my son w/ me a bunch and we have a fun berm, table, and roller line. It still needs a fair amount of work but is a lot of fun.

Motivation for that stuff came after I rode the Stowe Bike Park. Hardy Avery had a lot of input (maybe all of it) and did a wonderful job in spliting up sections for various levels. Here's some pics and a writeup from me and a vid from someone esle on BustedSpoke:

This guy Wheelie Nelson that I believe did the CAD drawing above posted some of his latest plans on VintageBMX:

How does one go about making plans that look pro like that?

I was thinking that when all our young uns go to their councils asking to build jumps, they will get taken a lot more seriously if they have professional looking plans.

SirChomps - I have no clue what app Wheelie used.

I would guess a 2D CAD or Landscape program could work. Another option is a Play-Doo model (I saw one that Hardy did years ago for the Stowe park). Might be worth a credit or grade for some of the young 'uns as well.

Wheelie Nelson = Greg at progressiveparkdesign.com . Those towns that want to build bikeparks can call him. . . . before they go and contract it out to some JoeBob with a backhoe.
