I have to say the Scott Prototype is a grower in looks but as soon as I focus the linkage-salad my brain goes all like wtftheselinesareallovertheplacewhatdoesthismean!?!?

If that's your brains reaction to that linkage you must be pretty used to that feeling already.

Nope it's just a healthy sense for general aesthetic standards and the importance of fluid lines. In other words: it just looks wrong, very much like 29ers look wrong.

Slightly under 40lbs but my RS Vivid exploded yesterday,so i might go for a CCDB Air & new set of tyres for a lighter over all build.Yes black lowers on the fork would look nicer but black wasn't available on the 2012 888 Evo's:(

06 Sunday Elite, 2nd year on the bike......our DH season is just now starting in Alaska due to a stupid deep snow year, resort got 900+ inches....just now able to ride from 2500ft down.

Addition's for late 11/12----

Just added '12 RC4 yesterday from my buddy's DHR, I have my DHX 5 coil being Avy Tuned right now, be interesting to see the difference between the 2. Test ride on the RC4 was good lastnight.

Added Chromag Bars/Stem
Transition Pedals from my AM bike
Transition Seat/Easton Vice seatpost after the SDG broke last year @ Whis
Adjusted stanchions some to get some HA over the factory 65, setting at about 63.9 now...
X-9 shifter/X-7 derailer

I had planned on some enduro bearings, but previous 1 owner already installed them in 2009. When the avy tuned shock comes back I have a RWC needle bearing kit for it also.

Bike comes in at 42.1......Might pickup a TR450 frame here soon, but cant find a reason to commit, bike is solid.

Yep, read the DW Tech/IH thread pretty extensively before making the decision. Dave ran a bike @ Whis for a year with an RC4 with no issues with the "chopped" link. Here is my modded link. I did mine with an airsaw installed in the bike, and cleaned the edges up with a dremel.




Shock installed.....



toff with 155 in the BO chamber, 7 clicks HSC, 5 clicks LSC (adjustments from full open) 450lb spring, Im about 195 geared up, put the bike right at 25% sage....

Odd because I have a 400lb spring on by DHX 5 and have about 25% also....

The bike did feel alot more plush thru the whole travel, a tad more poppy, and definitely tell it ramped up in last 1/3 of travel. I will have some more seat time next weekend at the resort here.


Small note, DHR bushings are aprox 22.5mm, Sunday Upper/Lower bushings are 23.1 +/- .1..... I was able to use a .5mm shim from an RWC kit to shore up the gap, its was barely noticeable initially. I also run a Grade 8 hex head allen bolt for the upper shock mount as well.

Awesome. Just wanted to make sure you knew you have to do it since I've seen some people wrecking theirs by not modding the link

Thanks for the heads up either way! :thumb: Have you heard of anyone mounting the shock upside down with the chamber facing forward and up? I know it was designed to be towards the bottom....not seeing why you couldnt run it like that.

11 SX Trail with some modifications.

2010 RC3 Ti, with Evo cartridge
Saint brakes, DMR Vault, Thomson Elite
Wheels Hope Evo2, Mavic 823 Highroller front, Butcher Dh back
Manitou Revox 216/70, now 200mm Travel
Overall weight: 17,3 Kg

Wow that looks awesome in black! Props for sticking with an old but good frame. I've had my Session 10 since '06 and still love it. I know they weren't the most popular bike but I wish Trek had just put them on a diet instead of discontinuing them.

What chainguide are you using and what size chainring?

I actually rode slacker on the old one. This one has a slightly softer beginning stroke so when riding it is similar. I run a littler taller bars and steeper HA than the old bike. The bikes can be run at 62° or 63° and come with a +/- 1° & a +/-2° angled headsets so you can get a 65° to 59° head angle if you take into account A2C height. All the test riders and journalists have been happy without any changes to HA but we did a lot of the testing in the alps on tracks like Champery & Morgins where minimal pedaling is needed.

For the other guys asking about the linkage. There are many reasons but some of the main ones are to reduce the rotation on the DU bushings while keeping a progressive system, lower bearing loads, more centralized weight and shelter the shock from mud.

My bike weighs between 16.5 and 17.1 kilos depending on what parts I am running. In this photo is was 17.1.

I like the arguments regarding the new Gambler linkage. It is not even more complex than the old linkage, same amount of pivots on the bike.

The color combination sucks on that, but otherwise it's a great bike! The Shan is about the only frame I would change my Blue Pig for.
