Some of you might have to use new socks if the old ones are too crusty.
Toothpaste is just a very fine polish FWIW.

Just any ol' generic toothpaste? I've always used my brother polish he uses on his wheels. Mothers, about time to get some more though and toothpaste would definitely be more cost effective

no dude! Ride whatever you're comfortable on. I'm just having a laugh because there are plenty of people here who swear up and down that riding a 50mm or shorter stem is better for trail riding because control, ignoring any detriment to climbing, which is, in general, at least 50% of my rides. For them it works, but no trail I ride is 100% fireroad climbs, and 100% gnar downs. If you're happy on it, keep it! I have a 90mm stem on my trail bike and a 50mm on my DH bike.
Oh I see, but actually I've been using the city bike quite a lot in the last months and every time I go back to the IBIS it feels weird, like uncomfortably high, can't even use the 160mm setup on the Talas, so I've been thinking I should try another stem first and see what happens, im thinking about a 65mm 0deg, any thoughts?

But yes, it's essentialy a fine polish. works wonders and is cheaper than any 'special' polish out there by far.
sure, 65 is a good mix between a trail-reasonable 90 and a DH-fun 50. It's all personal preference, and you need to pick what makes you comfortable. For a while, I had a bike with a long TT and ran a shorter stem. Now I'm back on a shorter TT and 90mm stem, and that fits me and is very comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to run a shorter stem on a bike with a very long TT, but even then, climbs suffered quite a bit for me on my east coast up and down business when I tried previously.

Shouldn't the 65mm long stem talk move to the non DH section? Isn't anyone in this section just focused on fast or gravity riding? Riding for the thrill. Climbing is climbing. 20mm stem difference won't make it any more fun. It will take confidence and speed from the fun bits though. Longer stems retard the steering feel.
On extremely long rides, a longer stem might give you a bit more energy for the fun bits, but how much fun are you having when you're that spent anyway? In an XC race, longer will make you quicker overall. If you can catch your breath at the top of a climb though, I'd stick to short.

Yeah, sorry for the derail but its nice when someone spots something you have also been thinking about, my main goal is to feel comfortable going down and I'll take Sandwich's comments to find a better setup to achieve it.

That depends. Some stems ride 'shorter' than their length would suggest.

I know any polish has some abrasive qualities to it, but wouldn't tooth paste be more so? I am not using 10 gallons of polish every couple of months so tooth paste wouldn't be save so much money that I won't buy the purpose made stuff. A jar of Mother's is $10 and will last almost a year, and its being used for my frame and my brothers wheels. I could justify the toothpaste if a jar of Mother's was $100 or I was using alot more.
Pretty cool though, good tip for someone if they are in a pinch or using alot of polish. I imagine you guys, being the military are using quite a bit of product on possibly some large machines haha can you say what it is exactly that you guys polish? There is a aviation museum(Warner Robins, Ga) a few hours from my house, went down there to scope out an SR71 Blackbird and a WW2 P51 Mustang. Pretty wicked to say the least, but the Mustang appeared to be raw metal that they had polished to an almost mirror shine. Breathtaking
