I'm trying to pull myself out of the political spectrum but haven't been quite able to do so yet....so I've been trolling reddit and other sources looking for a reason that makes some sense why the dems were absolutely clobbered this round.

One that has come up a few times was the large shift in the white male, 19-29 demographic. The poster said something along the lines of "the democratic party has alienated while male voters, demonized them, and that has caused a shift in their voting preferences." I thought that was a pretty interesting take. I consider myself pretty "woke", but everything in the media is about women's rights, trans rights, gay rights, etc. etc (or Don Trump). Looking at the media, it's pretty clear that the dems lost the plot for blue collar middle america. I spoke to my wife about this and she said "I don't care about them, they had their turn" which kind of resonated with me- that's probably why they voted for the candidate that keeps saying "Yay white men" and why we lost the election. I mean, this wasn't a "Lost the presidency" kind of election...democrats lost everywhere, or barely scraped by. Thoughts?

We also put a woman of color on the ballot, so there is that. Had it been a man of color, we might have had a chance.

Jon Stewart’s latest Daily show episode did a pretty interesting bit where they showed how the image of the Dems as promoted by Trump was influential. Dems tried to create an image (with a billion dollar budget) but the Republicans and Trump promoted a different image of who the Dems were and were better at it.

The Dems did “the right thing” but in the wrong way. They gave a woman of color a shot. She was the VP. Makes sense. Where they messed up was the timing and the process. Biden should’ve stepped down sooner and there should’ve been a selection process. They should’ve accepted the backlash of stepping over Harris to find another candidate. They would’ve offended but not lost certain voters who would still go anti Trump. Remember, she didn’t place highly in her campaign for the presidency, and America didn’t respond well to her being selected for them at the last minute. She was a better choice than Biden but not better enough to win.

Biden stepping down sooner and getting a primary would have changed jack squat given that Joe and Jose Sixpack were irrationally protest voting against inflation and their perceived degraded social position (imo)

I’m not saying they would’ve won, but they’d have performed better.
The irony that the Trump allies getting his tax cuts drove up prices and got the Dems to take the fall for inflation.

Outright lies constantly being spewed by mango, amplified by right wing meeja and swallowed up by a large percentage of the population rates highly as the issue in my immigrant opinion.

I think a bigger factor in the 2021/22 inflation was the supply chain issues from COVID combined with the large amount of $$ injected into the economy, also a result of COVID. But I'm not an economist.

Neither of which the president had any real control over, for the record.

You forgot “growth” aka “greed.”

From Elon Musk to some pitiful bastard living check to check while driving a $80k brodozer everyone wants more more more for less less less.

My CEO literally said these two things to me:

“Everyone else is jacking up prices. So, we can’t just not take the extra money.” This was in response to my pointing out that the cost (on any level) of one of our product lines had not increased, but we were raising prices by ~10%!

“Once we’ve raised the prices we’ll have that much more margin when our costs come back down.” This regarding a different product line for which we were having sourcing issues.

Greed is what is making things cost more.

and us rationally thinking people who actually read shit instead of inhaling it via Russian-sourced TikToks are well aware that Powell and the Dem policy bills actually led us better through these headwinds than anyone else in the G7.

A big chunk of it has to be the failure of the long promised "Roevember." The Dems lost the momentum of that huge piece of their platform, and many of the female votes that it should have locked it in for them. Combine that with the constant bashing of tRumps obvious incompetence/incontinence and the lack of truly concrete platforms to combat his "...concept of a plan..." and his incessant, nonsensical babbling...and then factor in the idea that more people vote AGAINST the Dems than actually vote for the Repubs because of the idiotic, misplaced and uneducated view that the Republicans are for the middle class. Republicans thrive on this, and mobilize voters based on lies and fears of migrant caravans.

I have been a registered Independent for almost all of my voting life. I registered with the Dems for this election because I was doing some work for Democratic candidates. Although I have never, and will never vote for any Republican, I am going back to Independant and will probably die one. Democratic incompetence wrt to campaigns and the running of same wears on you. Clinton v. Trump should have been easy, as should Harris v. Trump.

In the end, I feel that the whole thing devolved into a pooh flinging contest, and although based on conjecture, slippery slopes and outright lies the Republican pooh flinging was far more effective with Joe Sixpack than the truth based Democrat flinging.

Not taking people and their fears serious is the issue, as unfounded as some of these fears might be for someone with a better overview. We are losing a generation of young males as all the talk is about females and minor groups. How many times have mainstream media reported about the 4x higher suicide rates of males vs. females? This is an indication that something is seriously wrong, a mental health crisis that makes this part of the population vulnerable to "easy" solutions.
The scary thing: this is a global phenomenon!

I think thats only because the US is the only country who can export inflation. Single digit inflation after the massive monetary expansion is only possible if somebody else absorbs the expansion.

The dollar is the world currency, when Powell dumped a crapload after covid, the rest of the world had to print to keep the exchange rates

I think this has a lot to do with it. When my racist high school Facebook friends spout off about the price of gas and food, I just cringe. It's like he's going to take over next year and we will be at $2/gallon and $.99 loaves of bread.
