From an email newsletter I get:

This Time America Knew What It Was Doing.

There is no coming back from this one.

Hi,

I was at a dive bar in Los Angeles in 2016 when Donald Trump won last time, and it was a big surprise.

Fuck, it was a big surprise for Trump.

I distinctly remember getting that feeling you tend to get in your guts when a bad thing happens that you can’t remedy or problem-solve your way out of.

But under the horror was this comfort in thinking that it was some weird aberration. The race was close and for many of us Donald Trump was kind of a joke. Not a good joke — not a pure hearty belly laugh — but something we could chortle at because he said and did wacky things that we didn’t expect a President to do.

Jimmy Fallon rustling Trump's hair
We didn’t really know him all that well. He was a Reality TV Star and he was a Businessmanand he could Be a Bit Shocking.

That’s why he managed to sneak in back in 2016: because we didn’t really know him.

Last night Donald Trump won again. He won more votes than 2016 in nearly every conceivable way.

And this time America knew who he was. They had heard him, and seen him.

He was a Sexual Abuser and a Rapist.

A Convicted Felon and a Racist and a Narcissist.

A Man who Hates Gay People.

A Man who Really Hates Women, including trans women.

None of this was subtle or unclear.

All of this was documented and shared with America. There were strong audio and visual clues about who Donald Trump really was.

The insurrection
John Kelly, the Trump White House’s longest-serving chief of staff, told us Trump was a Fascist.

All of this — and over half of America went:

This is who we are.

This is what we believe.

This is what we respect.

This is what we want America to be.

Trump watch party
As I mentioned in yesterday’s newsletter, I spent last night at a Donald Trump “watch party”. It was like a Game of Thrones watch party, but — it wasn’t because none of this is a joke it’s all just pretty horrible.

I spoke to people there about why they were in that room, how they were feeling, and what they believed.

It was a hodge-podge of ideas and beliefs. There was talk of God and American Values. There was talk of the Trans Agenda and The Jab and Closing The Border.

A lot of people told me God Had Rescued Trump From That Bullet.

What mostly stood out to me were the strange reversals on reality. People spoke of a man who Cared About People and was Honest — and when it was clear Trump was the winner, they spoke to me at length about how important it was to have a Peaceful Transition of Power.

It was as I’d slipped into the quantum realm, stuck in a superposition that allowed me to see another reality.

That would be a nice explanation — me cracking quantum physics — but we’re here because I realise well over half of all Americans hate women and trans people, and support rape and insurrections, and racism and hatred and selfishness and narcissism and the worship of money and being terrible to each other.

To be blunt: This isn’t an aberration. This is what America is, and always has been, and is now celebrating, and it’ll be stuck in this space now for decades.

Statistically I will die while America holds these values.

One of my favourite records is Slipknot’s All Hope Is Gone. I had a feeling this was the result we’d get, so I wore my Slipknot hoodie to the party.

I am not saying all hope is literally gone — there is always hope. You give me hope: the readers and community that’ve built up here give me endless hope and optimism for humans.

What I am saying is that was the worst fucking party I’ve ever been to.

David.

PS: As per usual, vent it out in the comments. It helps me.

Solidarity.

Sanity.

The idea that ME is more important than anything else is the problem. No one can ever compromise anymore on anything that may somehow negatively affect them. When it comes time to start paying the bills, it will get interesting.

I think the worst thing about this will be the gloating of people like you, Brian.

Most of those decrying the border situation live nowhere near the border, and are dependant upon those who come through the border to harvest their food, mow their lawns and perform other menial tasks for their lord and ladyships. The "...they bring drugs/crime/other assorted pestilence and take our jobs..." cry is a total red herring.

She campaigned on hope and love, concepts that this country is obviously unable to understand. He campaigned on hatred and vengeance, concepts that apparently most of us understand and embrace. Neither had clear cut anything, only ideas- his far more vague than hers.

What worries me most are his threats of retaliation and vengeance against those who stood against him. I sincerely hope that somehow there is a sane voice left in the GoP that can talk some sense into someone that has an effect on him...

On a side note, I bet his current wife is super pissed right now.
So help me out here. If migrants crossing the boarder legally can't they get the same jobs harvesting crops, gardening, construction etc? So the only way we get that same category of worker is if they come over illegally? Who is paying for all the housing, medical, food etc for them? You & me maybe? Yes drugs have been coming over here in alarming amounts, your media doesn't mention it because it would shed the light on the failure of the Biden administration. What about the rape & murders of women by illegals? Those woman/girls might still be alive if the boarder was more secure, but they didn't care. That's why it's been kept hush and when Harris finally did go to the boarder, she went to the area with minimal crossings to show everyone that she "went".

The Biden was placing vaccine mandates on US citizens & employees but not enforcing it for the illegal immigrants during the heart of the pandemic. Why weren't the required to get vaccinated to enter the country?

The Trump administration is for legal immigration, just not illegal immigration. So calling Trump Hitler is calling for hope & love? The Biden/Harris administration was always bashing the Trump voter and calling gf Trump supporters "garbage".

The left kept coming after Trump by a fake Russian collusion hoax, tried to put him in jail for "hush money" in which is only technically a misdemeanor and other trumped up cases, two assassination attempts.

He was already president for 4 years and believe it or not WW3 never happened like everyone on the left claimed would happen.

Not gloating, then again if Harris won I'm sure you'd be gloating and talking shit about Trump & his supporters?

I don't think he's going to retaliate, the left media loves to fuel that narrative to keep their side in check and keep the hate still burning.

I don't think so. I don't think that a woman of color was the best choice, but I don't think it would have mattered- people wanted the chaos and ugliness of trump 2. They wanted a reversal of the policies that are influencing our economy. They want a flat gaza and to end sending money to ukraine. I don't think biden would have won, nor bernie, nor any other democrat- america simply wanted to get rid of illegals and reduce taxes on billionaires.
10 million fewer votes. Racism, bigotry, misogyny, Christian Nationalism and white supremacy were openly displayed, trumpeted, and celebrated.

Tens of millions of Americans saw that and wanted all of that, and 10 million people decided it wasn't worth bothering about. There is no sugar coating this. This is exactly what a majority of Americans want, this isn't a con or a trick. They were painfully direct with their intention and voters said "please sir, may I have another". What an absolute failure of education and society in general.
What Squeeb said. It's all that, but mostly the racism, tinged with misogyny. All else being equal? A black man named Karl Harris woulda won. A white woman named Karla Harris woulda won.

If only they got what they voted for, I for one would approve. However...we all will get what they voted for. And thats gonna suck...
It'll be interesting to see the Right tie themselves into knots (to blame things on the Dems) after the next few storm/flood/hurricane/etc. cycles in the red states.
*After so many people lose insurance when the ACA pre-existing conditions clause is gone.
*After FEMA is gutted.
*Everthing costs more due to tariffs on All THE THINGS.

All things the orange buffoon has said he'll do.

Granted, it'll be the poor and POC in those states that suffer the most, and we know the Right doesn't give two shits about them.

From my perspective, thats the essence of the US.
Its basically the identity upon which the country was founded and is known for.
My wife reminds me of this a lot. She points out that it is in our DNA. (Almost) Everyone here had ancestors who came here from elsewhere. Whether it was 100 years ago or 500 years ago, people came to America to get theirs. To do so has always required risk taking and the requirement that one steps on or over others. The people who did not have this “stayed home.” We are the descendants of the “gonna go get / take mine” people who came to America.

Not saying I believe the above entirely, but it is an interesting idea to explore. We are exactly who we were always gonna be…

If the republicans were really serious about this, they'd already have cracked down on employment, businesses, etc. If you eliminate the businesses that hire undocumented migrants, there's no reason to come.

Of course they aren't serious. They know how fucked our economy would be without the illegal labor. It's a dog whistle for the base.

- You conveniently forget that he has promised to deport even legal immigrants. He wants nothing but whypeeple here in 'murikkka. Please cite the speech/policy memo in which the incoming administration proclaims their support for immigration of persons from South/Central America. Thus far, the only immigration I know of that he favors is that of soft core porn model "geniuses" and students from South Africa who never leave and work illegally, taking credit for the achievements of others.
--Let us not forget who initially called him Hitler. Please cite for the audience the times a member of the Left has used such a term
--Please cite for the audience the statistics regarding rapes and murders pf women by illegals vs. the statistics regarding rapse and murders of women by legal, native born citizens. Bous points for citing numbers by domestic partners.

- Fact. More drugs come through mass entry points (Seaports, airports etc.) than are carried over the border on the backs of people clinging to a few meager possessions in search of better lives.

- The heart of the pandemic occurred when Trump was in office, and he didnt enforce vaccines for illegals either. he was too busy separating their families and losing their kids.

- Russian interference was and remains real. Operation Lakhta happened, and will happen again. Whether your hero had direct involvement or deep knowledge remains to be seen. It is my bet that he had, due to his "useful idiot" status, at least a cursory knowledge, but due to his loose tongue and looser brain, they kept intricate details from him. Although the Mueller report concludes that they did not establish that the campaign conspired/coordinated with Moscow in interference activities, investigators had a picture of interference that occurred and was welcomed by the Trump campaign. Also identified were definite links with Russian spies, and lest we forget the most damning statement by Mr. Mueller- "..."while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him." The Lefts pursuit of him is justified. THe RIghts pursuit of Mr Biden proved, conversely, nothing. #redherring

- After he left office, my wife asked me if I had anything good to say about him, to which I replied "Well, he will die someday, and he didnt start a new war..." so there is that.

- I personally reserve the right to talk shit about him and his supporters as long as they are complete and utterly delusional traitors, thugs, morons and losers. It is my right under the Constitution.

- Fact. The only reason he ran again was to stay out of jail. An effort that thus far has proven successful. Time will tell. He doesnt care a whit for anyone other than himself. Soon his followers will turn on him, and it is only a matter of time before his own party brings about 25th Amendment actions against him.

Whats the over/under on how many days he spends golfing this go, and how mush $$ he will glean from this one???

Its not necesarily a bad thing. Its also the foundation for development and prosperity.

Freedom and the american self sufficiency ideals are all based on Me.
On the other side of the coin, you have the japanese society with its social-centric culture, with all its pros and cons.

I just think Trump knew how to tune into that cultural trait, and cranked to 11.

So the 10 million democrat voters stayed home because kamala was a black woman? Personally I think if even a generic white male candidate was jammed down our throats the same way she was, we’d be in the same mess. I just don’t buy that those folks stayed home because she is a woman, but rather because she kinda sucked, and the dems didn’t run on the issues that people care about most right now- inflation and immigration.

"It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. First, it was the white working class, and now it is Latino and Black workers as well. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.

Today, while the very rich are doing phenomenally well, 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and we have more income and wealth inequality than ever before. Unbelievably, real, inflation-accounted-for weekly wages for the average American worker are actually lower now than they were 50 years ago.

Today, despite an explosion in technology and worker productivity, many young people will have a worse standard of living than their parents. And many of them worry that Artificial Intelligence and robotics will make a bad situation even worse.

Today, despite spending far more per capita than other countries, we remain the only wealthy nation not to guarantee health care to all as a human right and we pay, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs. We, alone among major countries, cannot even guarantee paid family and medical leave.

Today, despite strong opposition from a majority of Americans, we continue to spend billions funding the extremist Netanyahu government’s all out war against the Palestinian people which has led to the horrific humanitarian disaster of mass malnutrition and the starvation of thousands of children.

Will the big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this disastrous campaign? Will they understand the pain and political alienation that tens of millions of Americans are experiencing? Do they have any ideas as to how we can take on the increasingly powerful Oligarchy which has so much economic and political power? Probably not.

In the coming weeks and months those of us concerned about grassroots democracy and economic justice need to have some very serious political discussions.

Stay tuned." - Bernie Sanders

I think the demand for change was what got Trump in the first time and why he’s back. Biden didn’t impress people. Harris was seen as an extension of Biden regardless of gender, race, or age.

I think that a lot of people see the Ukraine and Gaza issues as money coming out of the US and that money is from tax payer dollars. This might be oversimplifying it, but I can’t help thinking that voters assume if those conflicts stop then US dollars stop flowing and their individual tax burdens will decrease. And even if they don’t, at least the money isn’t (visibly) going to pockets outside the US borders. The Dems tried to paint a picture of how the wealthy were gouging the working class and that taxing the wealthy could level the playing field. Two major problems with that are:
1) Nobody could put together a clear Katie Porter picture of the Dems sources and uses versus how Trump’s plans would benefit high earners and corporations but not lower level earners.
2) Americans cringe at the idea that success is penalized, and taxing the wealthy looks like penalizing success.

I don’t have any data to back this up but it’s the impression that’s starting to form.

No mandown,Gaza and Ukraine are two different matters. Please do not Insult me with this thought. Oversimplifying?

Are you Insane?

You think the People of America are thinking of Gaza as a Tax Paying Problem? Indeed it is,a serious one. A Mind Boggling One. Nothing New for USA though.
