"My formula for a balanced budget reflects the priorities of our country at this moment in its history, protecting the homeland and fighting terrorism, keeping the economy strong with low taxes and keeping spending under control," Mr Bush said in a statement.

He predicted a deficit in the year to October 1 2007 of $244bn and said the country could be in a surplus by 2012.

Sweden Shuts Down Problem-Prone Nuclear Reactor
February 4, 2007 8:31 a.m. EST

Som Patidar - All Headline News Staff Writer
Stockholm, Sweden (AHN) - Sweden was forced to shut down a nuclear reactor Friday night after officials discovered some security system flaws. The Forsmark 1 nuclear reactor, located at Sweden's east coast, was shut down so technicians could inspect it.

According to local media reports, Anders Jorle, head of information at the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate, SKI, said that there's a rubber seal in the reactor which has possibly aged.

"If it's not tight then the system in the reactor does not work. If a real accident were to happen this controls the flow of steam to the reactor - if it does not work then you have fewer options for dealing with a possible disaster," Jorle said, describing the reason behind closing the facility.

Shut them all down.
In the 1980 election for or against nuclear power there were 3 opotions; 1, Yes to nuclear power; 2, Yes but only until the end of 2010 (maybe 2015?); 3, No to nuclear power.

The stupid second option won. It was a total manipulation from the industrys side to sell that scht to "Svensson" who's typicly too affraid to take a real stance and prefers to walk in the middle...

Well, it's 2007 and they have 12 or so reactors to shut down and substitute before the end of 2010. :wait:

Didn't they say at the start of Iraq it would be no more than 2.7B? Because that was all they had budgeted for? I'm not saying we shouldn't spend another 100B on it, not now that we are making such progress.

So the direct cost of the war so far is in excess of $300,000,000,000 dollars. There are approximately 27,000,000 people living in Iraq. So that's a little over $10,000 per person in Iraq. The average wage in iraq is no more that $100 (many estimates are considerably lower). Approximately 40% of the Iraqi population is under the age of 16, the average household size is 7 people. So we could have given each person in Iraq (including children) approximately $10,000 (8 years pay) or each household $70,000 (28 years pay assuming two earning members) and just left them to it.

They'd still be enjoying the party...

So what you're saying is that we could have spent the same money and prevented putting our troops in harms way, yet still empower the Iraqis with the opportunity to kill each other at every opportunity?

Interest: $261 billion

Is that what we're paying on our debt?
Beautiful aint it? It gets better. The reason you are paying interest on that money is because it is a private bank that owns the Federal Reserve (unlike other countries who print and therefore collect interest on their own money).

Money that would normally go back to each and every US citizen are now going to a few people like the Warburgs, the Rockefellers, the Morgans and the Schroeders. So to sum it all up, big oil and big gun sold you a war and are now swimming in even more money, and now their country club pals, the bankers, want their share of your money.

Naah, the killing didn't start until Bush and Blair stomped in. It probably means that you would have gotten your biggest ally in the world! For preventing terrorism, I don't know. To my knowledge, there weren't many terrorists in Iraq prior to the invasion.

So if Saddam & Co had simply packed their bags and left town you think Iraq would be a calm place? The various sects didn't just start hating each other when the US arrived, we merely provided the chaos which enabled them to kill each other.

Very true. We did however, take the bull into the china shop, untie him, kick him in the nuts, and then wave a red cape in front of his face. Now George has all these broken dishes, and he doesn't know what to do with them, because none of the pieces are big enough to do a line off of while Laura isn't looking...

That could be true. And maybe it is a tactic you have underblown; to divide and conquer. Although, if you hadn't walked in Saddam Hussein would still be smoking his cigarr and there wouldn't have been close to this many killings (not counting the UN imposed and US/UK dictated sanctions).
