I just heard on the news that NC's governor, Mike Easley, announced that 2 of the gas pipes supplying, 90% of NC's gas are not working. Before he announced this gas on my way home was $2.99, I wonder what its gonna go up to after word gets out...

I'd be happy to pay $7 a gallon if I could get the same amount of vacation time and hours a week that many Europeans get. Two weeks a year and 40+ hours a week is BS!!!
here! here!

What have gas prices got to do with vacation time?
dont you know??? its that high tax on gas in europe that supports the socialistic welfare system!!!...
thats what makes up the difference of 19% of the GDP as budget in the US, and the 50% it is in france... :blah:

People keep saying that we shouldn't gripe because our prices aren't as high as they are in Europe, so I'm finding something to gripe about that they actually do have better than us.

I thought this was a cycling site! I ride my bike everywhere (made possible by my small town). I bought it for $100. I'm not going to make myself dependant on cars by living that far away from work.

Hope you can find one - they're getting hard to get. I bought mine last year and love it.

No ****. I went looking for a wagon the other day and the dealer told me to forget about it. I love my tdi, I just wish it was bigger.
However, biodiesel is cheaper than reg diesel now!

I moved to a different state to drive less as far as work is concerned. 30,000-50,000 miles a year for work related driving got old after 4 years.

im waiting to see if we get any changes to policy for our police vehicle operation. i'm just hoping they still let us take our cars home and work off duty stuff. i'd be flat broke w/out my off-duty money coming in.

A client of mine just came in to show me his new Hummer. I hope gas goes to $10/gallon, and maybe Americans will do what they should have done in the seventies and build some tiny cars and God forbid, ride a bike.

Maybe this will be the solution to our obesity problem?
Everyone will start walking/riding more?

Gasoline futures surge to record high
By Chris Flood
Published: August 31 2005

US gasoline futures surged to a record high on Wednesday after the Department of Energy reported a 500,000 barrel drop in gasoline inventories to 194.4m barrels as stocks fell for a ninth week in succession.

The September Nymex gasoline contract rose 17.2 per cent to $2.90, its highest level since opening in 1984.

“US gasoline prices are now in the process of the most dramatic spike ever seen,” said Kevin Norrish, analyst at Barclays Capital.

The inventory data covered the week to August 26 and does not reflect the impact of Hurricane Katrina. Although the US government attempted to calm the market by saying it would tap the strategic petroleum reserve, this move was seen as largely ineffective after the disruption to refining capacity caused by Katrina.

Traders fear gasoline prices could spike higher, as Katrina has left nine refineries idle and four operating at reduced rates. Analysts said reduced refinery output would present a major problem, with estimates of losses of between 20m and 40m barrels of refinery throughput.

Crude oil prices continued to trade close to record highs after a larger than expected decline in crude inventories of 1.5m barrels to 321.4m.

The October West Texas Intermediate contract traded at $68.94 a barrel, a loss of 87 cents, but IPE Brent for October delivery moved 55 cents lower to $67.02.

US heating oil prices also pushed to a new record high, with September Nymex heating oil futures trading at $2.0749 a gallon from the previous record of $2.06 set on Tuesday. US natural gas prices moved higher, with October Nymex henry hub up 3.6 per cent to $12.08 per million British thermal units from $11.659 on Tuesday.

Coffee prices are expected to rise amid fears that 8 per cent of global coffee supply could be disrupted. In London, the November robusta coffee contract hit $1,005 per tonne before settling 2.4 per cent up at $975 per tonne.

Traders also remained concerned about disruption to US soft commodity production by Katrina. The December cotton futures price eased 9 cents to $50.19/lb after reaching a 3-week high on Tuesday.

Gold prices rose to $434.20/$434.50 a troy ounce in London, helped by Japanese buying, from $429.80/$431.60. Traders said the key issue was whether gold would hold above the support level of $430 if funds continue to liquidate long positions.

Goldman Sachs upwardly revised its forecast for copper prices next year, with the benchmark three month copper price expected to average $2,785 per tonne in 2006, almost a 15 per cent increase on its previous forecast of $2,425 per tonne.

In London, the benchmark three-month copper price traded $10 lower at $3,637 per tonne.

Tell me if I am just talking out of my ass BUT... They drive the big Suburbans, at least like 3-5 at a time when the presedent travels. When gas prices go up, Does it REALLY effect the Presedent. Does the White House have its pre-paid gas card that our taxes actually pay for? Does he care that I spent almost 70 dollars to fill up my car this morning? I have "heard" of "Farm Deisel" which is about $1.50 and is not as good for your engine, but effects won't show. These are the times I got the Ram 2500 instead of the 1500, there is a "Farm Deisel" tank around here. It is VERY illegal, and if you get cought, the Gov't will charge you around $10 every mile on your car.

Quit your complaining you knobgobbler. You could of had Mommy and daddy buy you something more fuel efficent, but you didn't, so you have no room to talk about rising gas prices

To hell with it all....let it go up to $10 a gal. It's 17 miles of shoulderless, traffic infested hell from my house to work. I'm going to give it a shot on the road bike....My only concern is weather I should wear my full face & body armor. Ah, on second thought, it probably won't do much good against these damn SUV's anyway.
