Probably a basic question regarding brakes

I did some poking on Google and here and wasn't really turning anything up.

More and more I am seeing videos of guys like Andreu Lacondeguy and Greg Watts doing double tailwhips, triple barspins, what have you. I can't get my brain wrapped around the braking setup - when you get to big tricks, the whole "lengthen the brake cable" idea would seem to not apply, and best I can tell the front wheel is still brakeless (I was thinking they ran the cable through the steertube and down the fork).

Can someone humor me for 2 seconds and explain how the brakes are set up on DJ bikes for guys doing multiple whips/spins?

With this set-up, I have room for maybe 4-5 barspins, believe it or not. With maybe 5 feet of cable, you can do about 3 comfortably, and run it wrapped around your headtube once so it stays out of your way.

I used to have 5 feet of shift cable and the front brake run through the starnut, so with gears and 2 brakes I have room for about 3. Fun stuff.
