has anyone ever seen aluminum build up on the tires from riding on rollers? like a weird thin shiny coat.

Yup, it happens. Some guys tape the rollers to prevent that and to reduce noise. You have to get really tough tape; good medical adhesive tape will do. And you have to do a real neat, meticulous job, one circumference at a time. If you spiral it, you'll drift off the rollers when you ride, not so much fun. It takes a few sessions for it to harden up and build a strong surface, but I've had it last years.
