anyone ever done such a thing? Is it possible? I have a profile 9spd rear hub sitting around I'd like to put on my hardtail, only problem is horizontal dropouts. I know that tensioners (bmx style) would work to keep it in place, but I also wanna keep the hub tight in the dropouts. My concern is availability of cones for the hub and fitting.

fwiw this is the hub, i just have a model that's a few years older.

i've done this before with an older shimano xt disc hub (its actually what i'm currently using on the bike), I'd just like to lace up the profile b/c its a better hub.

I would try asking profile if it is possible to convert it. With some hubs it is possible, especially shimano, but your profile might be able go to contact on their website and send them an email.

You just need to order the 3/8ths inch axle studs(instead of the QR ones your hub is currently using). Profile sells them and they are super easy to install.

the 3/8 axle is 1/2mm smaller than a qr axle (which is 10mm dropouts). will the tolerances be tight enough for this to work adequately/properly? (please note, horizontal dropouts). Because I know that 10mm axle's do not fit in 3/8" dropouts without grinding out a decent portion of metal.

Yup youll be golden... and your hub will stay put. I used this exact set up on a few builds. I think I even have some axle studs around here for that hub...
