I haven’t used an IM program for a LONG time, but at one point in time, I used a program that worked with multiple IM services (AIM, MSN, etc). It’s been a while and I couldn’t remember the name of this program so I did a Google search – and lots of different programs came up.

Which program do you guys prefer? It would be a big plus if it worked with Google IM. It would be an even bigger plus if it was a portable program of some kind and I didn’t need to install anything (soI could use it on the computer at the office). I have no idea if this is even possible.

Suggestions?

I don't like Trillian as much as Pidgin.

Trillian is a bit heavier on system resources and the interface is a little more overwrought. All I need is a very simple interface - a list of people online, and the ability to talk to them.

I've also tried to make a concerted effort to move towards open source/truly free programs.
