Considering I had to warranty my 510 Impacts twice within the first six months of buying them last year I think I'll pass.

The soles are still peeling off? I thought that was just the first year or so (of the XVIs),

I don't see the problem...those are the contact soles, ammirite? :thumb:

I actually have the same model as those and mine have been stellar. Finally starting to show wear, but plenty of miles left unless of course the sole falls off. My freeriders have been great as well, and I have a pair of new VXis (all flats btw) that will be in the rotation post haste.

But for those who have given up on 5.10, what's next on the docket? Several of the other brands I've tried have felt like wooden soled dress shoes in comparison- but I suspect there's other good options that I'm not aware of.

I've been riding these for the last 2 years as my trail shoes and I'm very happy with them;

Adidas putting Stealth rubber on their own shoes seems to have worked out far better than Five Ten trying to fix their build quality with Adidas money. Overall grip is not on as good as set of Impacts (which I still wear for DH) but is still excellent, mine are in great condition for a 2 season old pair of shoes. They are currently 20% off too.

I have the old Terrex “stealth” which are passable for trail days, but nowhere near as grippy as XVis... I save those for the gnarly rocky and steep trails and lift access trips. Trying to preserve the peeling sole.

I wonder if the new Impact Pro or Freeride Pro have fixed the 2-part sole separation issue.

My Freerider Pros have about 3k miles on them and are holding up amazingly well. Best shoes 5.10 has made in my opinion, but I haven't tried the Impact Pros yet.

I just bought a set of the XVis and the sizing seems to have changes a bit with them. I had to exchange them for a size smaller than what I run in the the Impacts and Freeriders.

Couple of mates are running the Speshy 2FO (?) flat shoes and they rate them.

I have a pair of about 4 years old Freeriders.

They are still in super great shape, but they've only been used for pumptrack duties with my BMX. Unfortunately, no ASTM Condition is defined at the moment for BMX riding, so it's very difficult to evaluate how this experience would translate for off-road mountain biking.

I am looking at getting the freerider pro's. I have seen multiple people with them that like them a lot.

I just got a pair after having the original freeriders for about 6 years. The quality on the pros seem to be top notch. They are a bit stiff for my liking so far, but I only have 2 rides on them so far, so I’m hoping they’ll break in a little.

You guys all suck. :D
I still have a pair of Impact 2's from about 2007.
They still look pretty good. No rips, or floppy soles, a couple of small holes in the mesh around the ankle, soles are pretty chewed though.
Granted, they have never been fully soaked, and only decently wet a dozen times as around here you can't ride in the wet.
They have never been through the washing machine, but have been hand washed many times.
Still feel pretty good on the feetz
And yes, they are heavy as fuck.

I'm a fan of the reinforced toe box. Keeps your toes happy in the rocks and keeps water out better too. It does a weird creasing thing when you flex the shoe (because the toe is made of stiff rubber) and I was worried it would cut into the top of my foot on long rides but I never ended up noticing anything.

Wife likes the fit of those but the soles got eaten to shit by her spank spike pedals, after 6 months they were no good. She's currently got Freeriders for trail riding and a pair of freerider pro's for this DH season.

In hell. Welcome!
Serious question- what do you consider their "trail" shoe? Freeriders? Hellcats? I'd be tempted to say the Kestrels are more their trail shoe, but they don't make a flat pedal version of that model to my knowledge.
Freerider / VXI / EPS as opposed to Impact / Karver.

The uppers on my '07 Sam Hills are still at 95%. Too bad the pedal wear on the soles has relegated them to bike park maintenance days. And they don't sell the replacement soles or ground up rubber repair kits anymore.

But the new Freeride Pros I got are pretty good shoes (5 months in, anyway), and a bit lighter. I'm thinking I'll start grinding up the soles on my old shoes to fix the new ones when the soles start to wear. Might try to fix my Teva Links with it, too. Those are still my favorite flat shoes of all time, and the uppers are nearly as tough as the Impacts, but they breath better, and are more water resistant.

Apologies if this has already been covered in another thread, but how sticky are the Teva Links soles? I am relatively new to flats, so I'm still firmly in the stickier the better camp.

Yup jinxed myself for sure. The upper portion is now coming apart where it rubs my crank arm while pedaling. Will post picture for reference.
This shoe vagina opened up last week. The soles are looking pretty haggard though so it's probably about time for a new pair any way.

maybe it's like a swat box for my shoe and I can fill it up with weed and gummy dicks!

I think they stopped making them 4 years ago.

Wife went from those, to 2FO's, to Freeriders, but now loves her new Freerider Pros as they're a little stiffer/more supportive than her Freeriders.

They were apparently rad but were discontinued probably 3 years ago at least.
