PW used to be huge back in the day, but I haven't heard anything about them in maybe 3 or 4 years. For all intensive purposes, I thought they were dead. I wouldn't be surprised if after this thread, we don't hear anything about PW for another 3 to 4 years.

Fwiw, I was told the frames descended great, but left something to be desired when going uphill.

one of my buddies still rides a PW. i believe the company is dead but there are still a few shops out west that have some frame parts in stock.

Yeah, they're apparently not making any new frames. Bushing "kits" are still available, but that's probably the extent of the service they offer. It's too bad, I saw a handful of Wild Hares this summer and they looked killer, especially considering the age.

FYI, I recently purchased a Blue Wild Hare frame on eBay. Did that belong to anyone on Ridemonkey?

I'll see if it's still in one piece when it arrives, but there's surprisingly little about the frame that's different from today's short-travel trail bikes.

I'm not expecting it to last forever or to knock my socks off performance-wise, but on paper and in pictures, it's actually quite similar to some modern bikes.

There are certainly some aspects of the design that hint at its age, but it's hard not to compare it to some much more modern bikes in terms of overall design.

I'll see what it's like when it arrives.

I had a Wild Hare for a while. A good bike really, the paint kind of sucked and the top tube was too short for me. The bike handled well and if not for some fit issues, I would have kept it a lot longer.

HS33s, Fire XC Pros, Manitou X-Vert, Bontrager Race Lite bar, stem, and post, Sram 9.0 rear derailleur, and I think the wheels were 517s on Nukeproof hubs

Attached a pick from back in my last college apartment, just before I sold the bike. You can see JBP's Joker in the background.

Mike,

Thanks for posting the pic. What year is yours? The one I bought looks slacker (speculation from pics) and has a gusset at the head tube junction.

Nice. The TT on that thing looks pretty long. Effective looks even longer with the seat way up and the long-ish stem. What kind of top tube length were you looking for? What size frame was it and how tall are you?

I can't remember what the actual tt measurement was or the frame size for sure. I'm 6'3" and typically ride a tt of 24.25" and sometimes more. I think that was at least a 120mm stem, maybe longer. I seem to remember being between sizes and should have gone with the larger. I sold the bike about 5.5 years ago so the details are fuzzy.

Yeah, I called one of the ex-Psycle Werks guys (Chuck at RBC--see MTBR thread) and he was really helpful answering questions about geometry, spares, brake mounting...etc. Better service than I've received from some companies that are still building bikes.
