Psylos and oil loss

I have seen a number of posts that describe Psylos barfing their oil on taking a hard hit.

Some questions for those who have observed it:

- Where does the oil exit, the o-ring seal on the damper fixing bolt?
- Is the failure associated with riding hard with the fork locked out?
- Any other interesting observations?

I haven't had oil issues with mine, so my input may be crap. I have, however, hear of seal issues with the Race model and 2001 Psylos. My '02 SL just come back from warranty repair today for damping cartridge issues though. Do you have one, or are you considering getting one? It's a good fork, I just wish it was stiffer. The 2003s are supposed to have a better arch and are claimed to be stiffer.

Edit: the oil burpage was from the main seals at the lowers from what I've heard.

I never heard seen them leaking either...we only sent back a few because the crowns were creaking. On local kid kicked the crap out of his psylo and it never leaked.

Mine leaked above the main seals. Every ride caused more oil to appear on the stanchions. I switched to Enduro seals and the problem went away.

Any my 2002 SL is kinda noodley in the 125mm position.

But I also weigh 200lbs.

My $.02...

I have an '01 that I kick the sh1t out of and have never had problems, not 20mm axle, and I'm too insensitive to handling to notice any flex (or maybe too wimpy a rider).

I just replaced the damper during routine maintenance because it somehow developed a burr on the shaft and the damping adjuster had been turned past the stop.

I have not seen any tendency to piss oil so far.

I've changed over half a dozen 2001-2003 Psylos now because the stanchions move in the crown. Is this a common problem or are we just total goons here in SD?

Most rock shox i've had come in have some leak or another... either the cartrige (which the leaking is often contained in the lowers) or the seals on the stanchions (which if there's an aftermarket part, it's probably a pretty common problem)

Every 2001 Psylo I have EVER seen on someone's bike has been barfing oil all over the stanchions and lowers. There was definately a problem. haha, I'm the master of the obvious
