I posted this question up on mtbr already but also wanted to do it here so I could get as many answers possible. I was just wondering if the top pulley system (ie Balfa BB7, TRek Diesel, KHS Dominatrax) would be useful on all DH frames? Or are there specific reasons why some DH frames have or don't have the top pulley where the chain passes over? Any info?

For bikes that have the main pivot close to the chainring (Everything from a Super 8 to the old M1), it's an unnecessary complication. The reason it's used is so designers can get a very high pivot, without having awful pedal feedback.
