So I recently received a series of texts from a childhood friend espousing QAnon beliefs and other tinfoil hat type stuff. I replied to him with a "WTF duder?" to which he replied "Oh, sorry, that wasn't for you..."

I asked him if he was really on board with them, anticipating an answer along the lines of "No, they are batshit craycray..." only to find that he is 100% on board with them, up to and including the PizzaGate b.s. I now think he was prospecting with regards to ascertaining my attitude towards the crazy side of the street, especially considering my background in the military...but now I am sure he has flagged me as a member of the baby eating cult and I should watch my ass when the storm comes...good thing I have plenty of guns too I guess.

Anyone else drop a friend or 3 over such nonsense?

You ever been on 4chan? This has all the markings of something that started semi ironically on there and was co-opted by seriously dumb people and opportunists trying to sell you t-shirts once it got mainstream attention and it grew from there.

It has all the regular tropes: edgy racism and hyper nationalism, devotion to strongmen, bs conspiracy theories, pedo obsession and so on. I’m pretty sure even Qanon’s foundational pizza shop - pedo connection stems from that cesspit’s code for child pornography: cheese pizza.

Q was literally one account posting on 4chan, supposedly some gov't official with "Q" level clearance giving vaguely worded 'hints' on undercover workings in the gov't deep state. It was a ploy to get trump elected by casting democrats as secret pedos. It grew from there with idiots giving it clout, platform and a much larger voice.

I remember the first Trump supporter I ever met. I was working from home and needed to have a 600 page manual printed. Called a local printshop before heading in. The place was a fucking mess, I am a slob but this place was just a garbage heap. The guy had one machine that actually ran, we shot the shit while things were printing. He just kept going on and on about how much experience he had in the printing business and was god's gift to the printing industry. I resisted rolling my eyes and just wanted to get out of their AFAP. When it came time to pay the bill he couldn't get the credit card machine to work. I said I could pay cash but needed a receipt as it was a business expense. He had no means of giving me a receipt so just gave it to me for free.

At the end of the non-transaction he started asking me what I thought about Trump, I was non-commital because I didn't want to actually talk to this buffoon. He just went on swooning about how wonderful he thought Trump was as "a fellow businessman". He wouldn't stop talking so I just pretended to answer my phone and walked out.
