Do you feel responsible for Bush's election, the Iraqi War, and our current economic problems?

Feeling the lag
Somehow I think those who should feel responsible would be those who voted for Bush.

Not that he promised to wage war in his 2000 campaign. But didn't even more people vote for him in 2004?

While I put majority of the blame on those who voted for Bush, I think the Green Party, while certainly having the right to run for any office, has to say, "I was willing to take votes away from Gore".

I was watching a PBS special about Nader, and one line struck me: "The lesser of two evils is still evil". I wonder what Michael Moore thinks about his statement, made at a 2000 Nader rally, today?

This is such a tired argument.
The fact that Gore lost votes to Nader only shows that he couldn't win those votes, which is Gore's fault alone.
My only grudge against Nader was that he killed the corvair.

hahaha!

I'm not saying Gore should have won. I'm asking do you feel responsible for our problems?

Thing is, no one really knew that Bush was such a fock up back then. I blame non-Democrat voters for getting Bush elected in 2004 when we knew so much more.

I voted for Gore so no, I don't (beyond being a throttle junkie :busted:).

I do feel badly for voting for Gore simply because he wasn't Bush though. I had/have zero respect for the guy.

the electoral college makes your (shaky) point even weaker, sanjuro: i voted for Nader when i was technically a washington resident, but since washington is a blue state anyway it didn't matter.

(i'm an oregon resident now, and registered as a republican to vote for ron paul in the primaries. i'll probably be voting dem come next year, however.)

Well, if you add the votes for Nader to Gore or Kerry, Bush would have still won.

But when I see all those shiny faces at the NY Rally, including Bill Murray and Susan Sarandon, I wonder if they acknowledge that the energy spent on Nader might have been better put to defeating Bush.

My mom voted for him in the 2004 election, even though she hated everything he had done, she disliked Kerry more, and felt she had no other choice.

Me? I voted for Badnarik. Did this take a vote away from Kerry? Not at all. I wouldn't have voted for him regardless. And since I received a provisional ballot, my vote was never counted anyhow.

What's a provisional ballot?
It's the result of the Help America Vote Act™. Just another part of the grand new tradition of American doublespeak.

What it is, is if you show up at the polling place and there is any question about who you are, or your residency or whatever they give you a special ballot which is sealed in an envelope. These provisional ballots (at least in Illinois) are only counted in the rare circumstance of an exceptionally close race. And since Illinois has 25% ballot spoilage, they probably aren't even counted then.

That's right, the Help America Vote Act. Helping Americans vote and ensuring that their votes are never counted, all at the same time. Just one more thing that makes America™ great!
