Questions about the E-13 DRS...

Lately I've been thinking I need a granny gear on my Bullit, since I ride so many uphills and stunt trails. I'd like to run a 36T big ring and a 24-26T small ring. However, I cannot stand dropping my chain or other drivetrain issues. As far as I've seen the E-13 DRS is the only option for me. How is the reliability? Thanks!

Other options are Blackspire Dewlie and MRP LRP. I'd stick with the E-13, myself. Only weaknesses they ever had were being noisy and having rollers crack, but the sleath roller solved that problem over a year ago...

I have also been running a DRS on my Heckler for about two years.
I used to have 22/32 combo but was not high enough gearing, now I run 22/36 and it is great. E13 recommends not running more than a 12 tooth difference between the two rings but it is working fine.

What's the reasoning for the <12 tooth thing? Possible chain-dropping or noise/rubbing?
I'm thinking about getting a DRS and I always run 22/36 - I think it's the best gearing ever for trail use.

It's a limitation on the derailleur, not the guide. Shimano only recommends 12-tooth jumps between rings. More than that, and they don't guarantee it to shift well. They always work fine for 14-tooth jumps for me, and some people do 16-tooth without a problem.

Right - I'd forgotten about that Shimano thing.
