OK, been riding on my new fork for a few weeks now & got a few questions:

1) When you first lock it down, and don't compress it, there's a bit of a negative bump (when riding). It feels like the headset is loose, but it's in the fork. It takes over an inch compression before this neg slack goes away: Is this normal?

2) I've jumped as hard as I could with the ECC locked & it seems to have about 2" left on the sliders before the very the bottom, I haven't tried a tie-wrap and ride aggressively to verify that's as far as it goes. Is this correct?

Mine always feels like the head set is alittle loose. I broke my lock out lever, so I cant test if it goes away or not.

Again, broken lever, so I cant check. But when I use a zip tie and compress it as far as it goes, theres about an inch left on mine.

Also, theres a creaking sound, i think it comes from the crown/sanction junction, when I use the front brakes.

Hope this helps. :)

Not really sure what you mean by neg slack...but mine doesnt really feel solid and locked till you ride for a min, or just throw it down to compress it all the way.

When locked it doesnt compress all the way, about an inch or so left.

All sounds pretty normal.

that 30 mm of leftover travel in the lockout is a feature so it can still soak up the little bumps on the climb.

can't say that i've used mine a lot, but it is nice how it drops the front end a bit for those steep climbs.

well he said he had an '02 so they don't have the inch of travel after you lock it out...I think only the '03 models havethat feature....iImight also sugesst that jumping or dropping with the ECC on is a very bad idea and not what ECC is intended for...the ECC was designed for help with XC use and climbing.....JMO....D

Well, I donno, mine only lock's out/down (ECC).
The way I understand it, the '03's have ETC, which drop's the fork down to around 90mm with 30mm travel.

Tested yesterday by using a tie-wrap, rode hard & hit some big jumps (for me anyways) & found out that the farthest it compresses to comes to 1 1/4" before the crown (when not locked). But when I lock it & push down it comes to 1 1/2" before the crown, maybe it will compress another 1/4" to match when/if ECC is not locked, but I didn't want to really jump hard on the thing...

dwnwrd, unless you got some upgrade on your fork to have the 30mm of lockout travel. theres no way for your 02 to have it.

You may be right. I checked the docs and can't find any evidence that the '02 has 30mm of travel when locked out, but the closest thing I can find is: "...having a locked out, short-travel fork for climbing and a full 5 inches of travel for descending with a simple turn of a knob."
I could sware I read somewhere that it had 30mm when I bought it. Now if I could remember where... Oh well. Who cares.
