I'm kind of new to setting up derailers, but the guy had my dual chainring setup before so that it would only click into the two positions. After I put on my new cable it is shifting into the normal three positions. How do I get a two position only setup again? It's an LX Deore derailer

Thanks

Tom

limit screws;
there are two screws on the back of your derailleur which tell it how far is too far to go. A very slight adjustment of one of those should contain your shifting range. You'll have to take a close look and maybe do some trial and error to get it right.

Tighten down the high ("H") screw. It will keep the derr from shifting the chain up and over the bash ring. You may not be able to turn it all the way in, but that doesn't matter. Trial and error and you will see what I mean. Sometimes if the screw is turned in too deep, it can catch on the inner workings of the derr and cause it to hang up.
